Is the only way to gain points for your account and horses through showing? Because I've discovered a downside to Riding Schools. XD

The only way to get player points (which are used to rank players in the Hall of Fame) is through showing. 

You get player experience (which is used to upgrade your account through the levels) from riding school, training and showing.

As far as I know, yes, points are only gained from shows. The more entries in a show = more points to be won, the less competitors, only minimum amount of points to earn.
