Show levels?

I don´t know if the show levels are related to the horse points, or the number of placings in shows... I mean, if I have a Regional1, what do the horse have to do to reach R2 level? Can anyone tell me? Thank you :)

Looking at my horses, it's obviously not the horse's points that count. I have lower level horses with more points while some with fewer point have a higher level. I even have a new foal in the N4 level class.
For me it seems it's rather the horses' stats, that count.

I'd be glad to see an exact answer to this question.

Showing levels are purely based on stats.
