Gaining experience?

So I'm level 6 and I need 3 more experience points to level up but I can't seem to get them? I've fed and treated all my horses and trained them too - but haven't gotten any experience? I would enter them in shows, but there are no shows in the discipline I need - so I guess I'm out of luck.

How do you gain experience?

You gain experience from shows. You enter on shows today but the experience won't increase until the next day when the shows completed.
