Rabbit breed discovery!!

#143612 Posted on 2018-01-27 15:43:35

Before I get into great detail about what the title means, I shall give a little background on my rabbit and my rabbit experience.
As most of you may know, I have grown up around bunnies almost my entire life. I can't remember or imagine life without a bunny. When we moved out to the country, we actually started breeding dutch hollands, but unfortunately that didn't 100% work out well. Trial and error however has taught me a ton about rabbits and bunnies. Well, just before the rabbit we have now, we had a... I guess kinda like a dwarf calico bunny? I can't remember what she was called... anyways, she was a beautiful sweet bunny (she loved to give kisses, lol) but she had a very sad issue. And not too long after we got her, she died. Unfortunately the disease or mental dissorder (not completely sure which one. My vet couldn't find out what was wrong with her, and so presumed she had a brain dissorder. It caused her to slowly go crippled until finally she died.) was a harsh one. But I'm actually glad she is dead now, because if she were still alive and crippled right now, she would be miserable as I'll get out.
So, after her, we rescued a rabbit. Her name is Fatima, and she is the sweetest thing ever! Because she is a rescue however, she had a few minor fears; for example, she hates it when we touch her ears or the tip of her nose. Me and my mom think that she was possibly picked up by her ears a lot before (she weighs 12 pounds, so doing that I'm guessing would hurt very badly.) and thats why she may have that fear. As to her nose, we still can't determine why she's scarred of it. Well, when we got her, her breed was unknown. That has driven me insane whenever people ask, "what's her breed?". Ugh. So I went on a mission yesterday, and I actually found out what her breed is! She is Giant Papillion, or more known as a Checkered Giant. I'm so happy I found her breed!! If I can find photos of her then I will post (;

She's really cute! I don't think she's a Checkered Giant, though. They only come in black and blue.

No they do come in brown like her. Wiki says that they only come in black and blue, but they come in brown and a few other colors as well. And thanks! (:

Do you have a source for that? I always love learning more about bunny colors. xD

(e) Her markings don't look right for a Checkered Giant either, though. They look more like a Polish to me, though obviously she's waaaay bigger than any Polish. xD I'm guessing she's a mix of something.

Edited again: Maybe she's part English Spot? The colors would be right for it, though her build doesn't look like either English Spot or Checkered Giant to me.

Syrien- Clicky for resource

Also, she does have a stripe down her back, you just can't see it very well in that picture, and it is slightly covered by the spots. (:
