treats for foals strategy

which treats does everyone give their foals?  do you go for hay cubes/peppermints, or do you use treats that give only discipline-specific stat boosts?

It all depends on whether you want to pay the $10,000 to convert your foals training once it turns three.  If you plan on doing that (set the specialty to one you don't want, and then pay the money to change it to the one you do want, which will switch all stats gained after the foal's birth to the two traits corresponding with your chosen specialty) then you should use haycubes, or peppermints if you can get them, until they get set to their final specialty.  This will give you the highest stat gain without damaging the ability of your horse to win shows, but it is expensive.

Otherwise, if you don't want to pay the $10,000 when the horse turns three, you should use only the treats associated with the traits assigned to the specialty you intend for the horse.  It won't give you as much of a stat gain, but it will keep you from crippling your horse's ability to show.

Or, if you don't care about your horse showing, go ahead and give them sugar cubes or hay cubes or peppermints.  You'll get the most stats that way, but your horse will suck at showing and may be harder to sell if you choose to do so.

i feed peppermints or haycubes until a horse is 5 (sometimes till they are 10). I set their speciality as something I don’t want  when they turn 3, and when I’m ready to start showing them, I convert them to the right discipline and begin feeding the appropriate treats to increase discipline specific stats.

i end up with 1000+ stat foundations and 1700+ second gens with this method, so it works well as far as I’m concerned :)
