HELP! Need training speciality advice

#139050 Posted on 2018-01-05 16:43:53

So I was clicking through my Clydes to check their base stats because I didn't when I started paying attention to stats; I was focused only on confo originally. I've been wanting to train all of my horses in Dressage so that I can easily cross my Clydes and Gypsies when that is available. This, to my horror,  is what I found http://www.equiverse.com/horses.php?id=114990&div=28386

What do I do?

Their base stats are in public notes now

If they’re foundations they’re easy enough to convert specialties and still have around 60 non specialty stats.

They are all foundation and all but 1 (she's in the EV Olympics) is trained and has all earned stats in Dressage. The problem is that while many have 40 Dressage spec stats most have a slight to significant  (54 Western! ) edge in other specialties.

I wouldn't worry about it - they'll probably average out down the generations - so unless you want to have several different lines of horses for different disciplines just leave them with the discipline you want.

For conversion you wanna look at their base stats. When you convert all earned stats get distributed into the two main stat areas for that discipline you convert to. So for foundations they are easier to convert into a new discipline, whereas a lined horse may have been born with higher non specialty stats.

Don't worry about it, as long as their stats non specialty stats are around 60'ish it won't have too much of an effect on them.

When I buy foundations my main concern is their conformation. For the moment I have one foundation mare who is seriously lagging behind because of her unusually high non specialty stats (71). All the others are doing fine.

Imagine having to try and get your hands on foundies with high confo and base stats in exactly the right places... we would have to buy a gazillion of them :p

to me personally, the number of non-specialty stats a foundation has is not really a concern. Like Feline, my main concern with foundations is conformation.

hopefully, the eventual change in the breeding formula to allow us to breed down non-specialty stats will eliminate this from being a concern at all. I'm keeping that change in mind for the future, so if you do the same (the way you're planning for eventual cross breeding ;) ) I think you might find its not as much of an issue for the long run!

although, caveat: I also do not show my foundations, they're exclusively fed haycubes (or peppermints, if they're one of my fave breeds) and entered in riding school before conversion at 19, so the spread of their stats isn't important.
