Trakehners

I have just got 9-10 Trakehners of bay, chestnut and black from the EC.  Do the colours - Perlino, Smoky Cream & Palomino have to be bred or just rare. I wanted a Palomino.

Also what are your thoughts about low conf horses, is it advisable to gene test them as it seems prohibitively expensive on a large basic herd when they are just going to be used as riding school lovee's?

You can get those colors from the EC but it’s rare. Usually to get a whole herd of rare colors/patterns, it takes making a ton of EC horses or using EVC to buy something that will change their markings or color. 

When I was breeding Trakes and TBs, I preferred 55+ confo, just my preference. I usually only gene test if I want to know the exact color options for my foals or if the horse is grey. I’m more concerned with breeding my horses once they have high stats over their color.

A 100% way to get a palomino is to breed a chestnut with a cremello.
