Pricing Advice?

#124025 Posted on 2017-10-11 16:41:06

This is not a crit, persay, so I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong spot!

I'm still a bit new to the game, but everyone is so nice here and have been inspiring me so much that I'd like to offer some tags, and maybe some characters.  I would really like to save up for a Deluxe membership- that's how much i love this game!  I haven't the foggiest where to start, so I'm hoping you all can help me!

I know Characters can perhaps depend on complexity, but if someone can give me some ballpark figures and help me get an idea of complexity and such, that would be amazing!  I do not use anyone else's lines,  i use my own!

I've done these two for contests here:
Foal Lines

Adult Lines

The Adult lines do actually have other options on it that you don't see there- color swatches, head marking option, place for name.

And onto the tags!  I want to offer tags similar to these:

Tags would use the same lines as everyone else's (so no custom lines, other than to maybe add small add ons), and also include a bigger version (500x500) as well. These are also my own lines.

I'm mostly looking for value in credits, as that's what I would be saving for the deluxe, but it would be good to know in EVD too, so that i have a rough idea of what EVD goes for in credits!

Thanks so much for everyone's help!

The generally accepted standard is that 50k EVD is equal to 1 EVC - prices in the user credit sales can run higher but the 50k/1 is usually what's used for selling art. That same 50k EVD/1 EVC is generally the price assigned for a single tag recolour as well. Some users will auction tags with a smaller number of slots and end up with far higher prices, but that's usually only successful once the artist has a long-standing presence in the art community here.

As for character designs, that pricing can run a bit differently. Very popular designs by a known design maker can be for auction with an auto-buy of up to 1mil, but that's the higher end of the scale. Overall designs are often put up for auction rather than flat sale, but you do see both. I'll leave further commenting on that to someone who is more familiar with selling character designs than I am.

I can't offer much feedback on large art cause personally I don't really buy it . . . I can't seem to find a place or reason to use it. *shrug* Perhaps someone else would have perspective on that.

Thank you so much for your reply!  This actually helps me a lot, and I'll have some pondering to do on how to go about things and what I'd like to do.

I buy large art a lot. But I'm from "The Game That Shall Not Be Named" and large art is all you can buy there. + I'm also on DA land of large art and I love large art too.

For large art, Usually my max is I'll buy around 200K -500K Somewhere in there.  Maybe more depending on the quality/type.

I don't buy refs since can easily make my own, but I sell custom refs for 400K if that helps?

I also do manipulations. I will buy for no more than 700K-800K  Some charge 1.mill for those depending again, how established they are.

As river said for Tags, the golden standard here is 50K or 1 EVC each. Some people charge more for doing addons like horns, wings, mule ears etc.

For signatures that's a little unchartered as there aren't A LOT of sig sales. Currently I think they're 100K-150K. Again some people also charge extra for addons.

From a buyers point of view, since I don't make art that often, I would generally pay anything cause well I have a ton of money to throw away. However you would want to make sure that you can sell to people with very limited funds on here as well and not always target people with millions to spend. Basically what I'm getting at is to leave the price of things low enough that everyone has a chance to buy it and not just the wealthy people on ev. It will make you seem more fair. Like River said, the standard price for a tag is 50k or 1 evc. If you stay around that price for tags, you will get more customers. The higher the price the less people will buy right away in my opinion. Also make sure you don't undersell your art as people will take advantage of the lower price.

Personally for tags I won't pay over 1 credit. I'm one of the people whom values credits at 100k-ish a piece since that's what they easily sell for on the credit market (:

Signatures depends on quality and such, but my max is around 3 credits
