So Frustrated...

Sooooo...

I was supposed to be moving today. We got a rental truck, cleared out storage and both houses (where my mother was staying and where I was). I was going to spend the day at the new townhouse and wait until the truck got there to start putting together my new room.

I drove all the way there and unlocked the front door to find that the previous tenants who were supposed to move out YESTERDAY left all of their things. It looks like they're still living there. I felt too awkward to even set foot inside. I'm so anxious now because we've spent all this money for the truck and now we have to put everything back and rent a truck AGAIN when they finally leave.

WE ALREADY PAID THIS MONTH'S RENT ON THE PLACE.

They didn't move out, breaking the terms of their agreement, and now they won't get their security deposit back. I'm beyond frustrated. I don't want to go back to a basement riddled with mold and fleas...

What? Who's the landlord/landlady? I'd get a eviction notice on them first thing tomorrow!

Ah man. I totally know what you mean about the moldy basement. My family is planning on moving in the next year. Hubby asked what my #1 wish was in our new home - I said no mold or water damage. I pretty much don't care about any "features" of the home as long as there is not a mold/wetness problem. 0.0;

Hope they get your situation figured out soon so you can escape your basement.

Feathered, my mother's SO (Mike) is an employee of the property manager (PM has a handyman business). Mike and my mother drove back to the townhouse to see if the couple were there. They were.

So from what they could understand through the language barrier is that the couple gave notice two weeks ago that they'd be moving out at the end of September. Because it wasn't 30 days notice, as explained in the contract, they wouldn't get their full deposit back. Without letting anybody know, they decided to stay for another two weeks and essentially turn it into 30 days notice so they could get their deposit back.

Don't know if they're trying to play a pity card or whatever, but the wife mentioned to my mother that "your daughter didn't seem to like the place." Um... she never spoke to me. The only time she's ever SEEN me was when we drove up so I could see the OUTSIDE of the townhouse. I didn't even get out of the car. It was basically a drive-by glance.

As long as they hold up to it, they said they'd get their things out as soon as they can and they'd be staying with the wife's sister tonight. Obviously they aren't going to get their full deposit back and part of the deposit that's being kept by the landlord will hopefully be used to reimburse us for the money we spent with the U-Haul and such today (and potentially staying in a hotel). Mike took today off of work to help get all our stuff into the truck, so all in all we basically lost $300 today.

North, I've been staying with my mom and Mike for the past week or so in they place they were renting (prior to moving out today). I have no plans to go back, except maybe to finish cleaning up the old basement room as a courtesy (I mean, they DID put me up for free for the past year). The fleas were getting so bad I actually ended up with some nasty dermatitis on both of my forearms (they were getting into my bed). After all the things currently in the U-Haul are transferred to the townhouse, all the stuff from my previous location is going into the truck to be flea bombed before going into the new place.

At the very least I'll hopefully soon be able to set up my bed, move my stuff, get my birdcage in there (traded a client of mine four dog walks for a really nice parrot cage), and acquire a bird (possibly adopting a parakeet from the Humane Society).

Oi, I didn't realize you were living in the basement with thr mold and fleas. D: I only have to visit my dungeon when I do laundry or something goes wrong with the plumbing or electric! So glad you got out of there and so sorry the old tenants in your new digs are being dumb. Can't wait to hear how happy you are in your new, non-dungeon locale real soon. ^-^

Aaaand they're out and we're in. Gotta do my job today, and then setting up my room. Just gotta figure out where I'm putting my bed... It's kind of an off-site room XD
