Negative Experience Left?

Hey all,
Still pretty much a newb here, but am loving the game! 

When I go to train, on some horses there is a negative experience left number.  If I train the horse, it just pushes that negative number higher and remains over 100%.  I  thought that it updated automatically to the next level-but it doesn't.  Is there a button or something that I'm missing where I should be advancing my horses to the next level?

I also feel like my member level isn't progressing the way its supposed to (I train and enter shows everyday, as well as place a lot with some of my horses!), and haven't even progressed past level 3 yet...but this could just be part of the game?

<sup>I'm not sure what you mean by the first one but I think you're confusing the arena exp for horse exp during training. The arena experience has no effect on your horses and only refers to the level of your arena. The arena keeps gaining exp until the owner of the exp upgrades it, even when it can't be upgraded anymore. 

The more horses you have for showing/training the exp you'll get. It can take a couple days to reach the next level, and it takes progressively longer to reach the next level when you level up.</sup>

Aaah, so basically since I don't own the arena and they're other people's, I'm help leveling them up by training there?  And if the owner of those arenas doesn't upgrade the arena, I get that negative number?  Does it have any kind of impact on my horses?

Hmm, I thought it has been a long time since I've reached level 3, but I could be wrong!  I have 9 horses, but 3 are foals, and I do everything with them everyday.

I think you're mistaking the Arena's XP for something to do with you/your horse! When you train a horse, a green bar appears at the top of the white part of the screen  (below the navigation bar but above all the content) that tells you how much experience you gained, that your horse gained a stat boost point, and whether or not your horse gained a training level. 

The negative XP left that you are seeing is referring to the Arena. Deluxe accounts level up their Arenas through use. The arena gains XP every time a horse uses it, and when it reaches 100%, the Deluxe user must press a button to level it up (from Novice to Local, Local to Regional, etc). The Arena you were using had more than enough XP to level up (it had a negative amount remaining to level up, so it had reached and exceeded 100%), but it's owner has not levelled it to the next training level (maybe they haven't been on, haven't thought of it, or are leaving it at that training level for a reason). 

It's just like with member XP - you need to go to your personal page to level yourself up when you reach 100% XP. If you forget for a while, your bar will say that you have a negative amount of experience needed until the next level - because you have reached and exceeded it!

A real life example - let's say I had been counting down to my 29th Birthday on Aug. 24 2017 on a countdown app on my phone and left the countdown active after my birthday. Today it would say, "There are -37 days left until your 29th Birthday!" because the day itself (0 days left) had been reached, and now we are 37 days past (-37 days left).

Does that make more sense??
