Specific Ages?

#122963 Posted on 2017-09-28 17:36:47

I was just curious if there were any specific ages that people waited to breed their horses at?
I know some might want to wait a while as the higher the stats the better the foals base stats (I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong).

But I was just curious :)

I just realized this breeding pair I have is now 10 years old for one and the other is 6 years old. The 10 year old is good for me, but wasn't sure I should wait until the 6 year old is older, or if it matters at ALL.

:)

A lot of people lock one of their horses (so in your case, the 10 yr old) until the younger one is the same age so they can age together and then breed them and 19 and 20.

I don't do this because I'm lazy but wait until my horses are 17+ for the best stats to be passed on

Boo, I was hoping people would say it doesn't matter. I mean the two already have 1000+ stats each, but I'm super impatient and all I wanna do is breed them together lol
I hate waiting a week for aging up lol
But I also want to learn the ways of good breeders/long time EV players so I have hope to one day have horses others want to pay money for. So I must learn patience haha

most people that breed for stats wait until the very last day before retiring to breed.
if you breed for color and/or conformation, some people breed every year from three onward until they get what they want.

the timing of breeding really depends on your personal goals in the game, and what your plans are for the foal(s).

do you want to keep it? Sell if off as a foal?

So I'm not as serious about my Andies as I am my QHs.
I'm trying to keep my QHs 100% my own bloodlines and achieve a variety of different colors within them just from foundations (So far I learned it takes a lot of money in the EC and a lot of time at the RC haha)

But for my Andies I'm doing more just for fun than super serious, so I'm okay with buying and breeding from outside lines, going to get some foundies here soon though. The two I want to breed are both from outside lines, amazing confo and stats. They were more just for fun for me to buy.
But I'd probably keep their foal! Maybe next time I breed the mare I'd sell her but I've had her since she was a newborn

My own personal rule is that I don't breed my horses before they're age 10 and have at least 500 stat points. But I also am not trying to breed foals with the highest stats possible, because showing is my priority and horses at training level 1 have pretty much no chance of winning shows at Regional level or higher. So for example a horse born at a National level is a disadvantage for me, because I'll miss out on 3-4 EV years of showing while it's training. Whereas a horse born at a Local level can be shown as soon as it's 3 years old, with a decent chance of winning.

Is the pair Donatello and Versace?

Versace is inbred, with Lord of War appearing twice in her first-page pedigree. He is both her great-grandfather on her father's side and her great-great grandfather on her mother's side. Lord of War is also Donatello's grand-father. Donatello is also inbred already, with Sound of Silence appearing three times in his first-page pedigree, Sounds of War appearing twice, and several other horses appearing at least twice.

If you don't mind having a foal that is inbred (there are no negatives to inbreeding, other than that it can make horses harder to sell), you can go ahead and breed whenever you want.

You could always breed them now for fun, and then in the future maybe pair them both with a foundation? Sometimes having a foundation parent can make it easier to sell and otherwise inbred foal if you do end up wanting to sell them.

I absolutely understand the urge to breed immediately though! I have several color and conformation herds, so i get to breed a new batch of foals at least twice a week, which satisfies my urge and keeps my stat line from having a ton of foals :P
