What to do with failing show horse division?

#121080 Posted on 2017-09-10 00:52:51

I have a herd of dressage Gypsys in which most of them are just awful at showing (there are a couple exceptions), which has become my main method of stat gain on here. Thus, their stats are much lower than my other horses of similar ages. So I'm weighing my options between turning them all into riding school horses, and hoping for the best stat wise, or turning them into a conformation/color project instead.

For those of you who breed for conformation and/or color as a main goal or project, how do you usually go about it? I'm just looking for a general rule of thumb about how many times you breed, at what age, and how to best go about pairing them up.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Some of your GVs have quite high non-specialization stats and all your tack appears to be 4/5, so your horses are probably competing against horses with 56+ more discipline stats, which is probably why they don't show so well.

With my conformation breeding, I try to pair specific sections as well as possible, matching 'poors' to 60+ score whenever possible. Because conformation inheritance is so random, I breed the same pair three times and take on the best conformed foal for the next generation. (I'm also breeding for stats and thus breed at the day before 18/19/20.)

Huh. Honestly I didn't notice their non specialties were so high. They didn't used to be, as the base stats on their page are much lower. Now I'm trying to figure out what I messed up on after I converted their discipline. Not much I can do to fix that now though.

The information for the breeding does help though. I'll have to spend some time looking at both conformation and color combos to try to find something that'll work on both ends. Maybe I'll go stick them in riding school for a while, and also try to breed down their wonky stats in an attempt to have a better batch next generation.

each treat is for specific stats except hay cubes, peppermints, and sugar cubes that put stats where ever

these are what treats needed for each discipline personally I alternate between the two treats to keep both discipline stats close
Dressage-yellow apple/green apple
Driving-red apple/turnip
Endurance-green apple/turnip
Racing - carrot/turnip
Jumping- yellow apple/carrot
Western - green apple/carrot

i agree with Almare that the level 4 tack is probably contributing to their showing results, as well as the high non-spec stats.

when it comes to conformation, i also use the "pair poors with goods" method. sometimes you've got to try several times to get the confo you are looking for (and even more if you're also looking for a certain color!). i believe a member posted walk through of the process complete with screenshots from Excel, but i'm currently unable to find it

when it comes to color, i try to keep the color in each generation, so i pair het/het and hom/no color.

It is also currently impossible to breed down non-discipline stats. The foal stat formula takes an average of the sire and dam's non-spec stats, so any progressive generations will never get any lower than the lowest stats of the stores you started with.

p.s. i love the naming theme!
