Thinking of Restarting A Couple Breeds

#119658 Posted on 2017-08-31 17:01:31

Recently Ive been looking at my Appy and Walker lines and just being sad.

I started the walker lines as a newbie, and their relatively low stats show that I didn't really know what I was doing and just kept breeding poorly. And the appies have so many high non-specialty stats because they started life as rescued Belgians before the recode.

I keep thinking that I want to dump the entire two herds and start them over with new foundies. But then I think about how much time I invested in them and get sad and want to keep them.

So many conflicting feels, but I honestly think a fresh start on those breeds would do me some good.

I mean personally I like starting completely from scratch if I start over at all. I get more of a sense of accomplishment from doing everything myself than from picking up someone else's work. Plus I really like raising foals, something about it is really fun to me.

I know you just said you like starting from scratch, but have you thought about perhaps just selecting a few horses from your current stocks and getting rid of the rest? Then get some new foundies and when they're old enough to breed, maybe mixing the old stock (or what ended up good from them) with your new stock?
Just an idea! As that way all of your hard work wouldn't go to waste and would still be there for you to perhaps build a new stock, but at the same time you'll be getting new lines and re-wiring your stock a bit. So you get whats good from your current horses and add them into your new breeding lines.
Just an Idea:)

Or just put them all in one barn and lock the barn, and start new lines on a different barn. So they're not just "gotten rid of" as they're still there and you can always dip into them in the future if you decide one of them has something you want, however it's not a necessity.

I unfortunately don't have the room to keep my horses and start new lines using new barns. And if I tried to keep just some of them I'd end up keeping all of them for one reason or another which would defeat the purpose of starting over.

Could you retrain your foundations to fix the stat spread and breed new?

#1 - How much do you care about conformation?
- Most of your horses have poor to extremely poor conformation; but there are some nice ones in there!

#2 - At least 1/2 of your Appaloosas have some desirable color modifications = flaxen (ff), silver (Zz), and cream (Crcr & CrCr). Those are the ones I'd keep, regardless of conformation, as that can be raised with breeding to high conformation studs and mares.

#3 - The ones that are listed below, are the Appaloosas that haven't been converted yet, so you could easily convert them to Western, to straighten out their stats, and "start over" with the current horses you have + maybe some decent foundations. If you can't afford to convert every single horse at the same time, you can always convert 1 or more at a time, and keep them locked until you have every single horse converted over to Western. :)

#4 - Finally, I went through your entire herd of Appaloosa's, and these are the ones I would keep (or buy).
--Shining Star
--Southern Dancer
--Amazing Grace
--Almost Illegal
--Chocolate Dream
--Fancy Rocket
--Mystic Cocoa
--Flashy Gambler
--Sierra Dawn
--Copper Flame
--Aspen Wrangler
--Summer Lace*
--Reno Scout*
*I don't recommend breeding these two again; but it's your choice. :)
--Brown Sugar

You don't have to take my suggestions, as anyone can play this game anyway they want too! But, this is what I would do, so I shall leave this here, and leave it up to you!

-Feather

I'm primarily a stat breeder because confo makes very little sense to me in this game.

Almost all my appaloosas are pre recode, thus I was able to put in the flaxen, silver, and cream genes. Unfortunately I'm only minorly a color breeder so good color but poor stat distribution makes them useless to me. I don't breed to outside studs/broodmares because then I can't control how many related horses exist on game.

Yeah, converting to western isn't going to help since I dont actually want to breed western horses anymore. Which is another reason I want to restart both breeds. And to be completely honest I think the price for conversion isn't worth it at all.

If I do restart I'll likely sell off the entire two herds and those that don't sell within a couple weeks will likely get rced because I don't want to hold onto them longer than I have to.

So would I! ♥ All those that I posted a link to are the ones I'm most interested in. ;)

I can totally understand your reasoning! It IS super expensive to convert one's horses, which is why most of mine are locked at the moment.

Personally, I'd love to adopt and retrain these two if you decide against keeping them!

Go ahead and message me offers for the horses you're interested in. I'm 100% starting over so I'd like to get rid of as many of them as possible.

Also North that second horse apparently doesn't exist?

Most interested in Aspen Wrangler, Sierra Dawn, Flashy Gambler and Copper Flame, willing to offer 200k for those four.

If you're selling the TWHs too, I'm interested in Leather Jacket, Bright Idea and Answered Prayers, 150k for these three.
