Young Horse Training: is there even a point?

#118871 Posted on 2017-08-24 23:21:55

Apologies if this question has already been asked somewhere - if it has, I wasn't able to find it using key words.

Is there actually even a point to young horse training?

From what I understand, it seems to me that you could just leave them until they are old enough to specialize (3yo) and then just choose their spec...  is there even a point in wasting time selecting which method of training you'd like to perform (weaning, lunging, break in, etc.) or even just clicking that "train" button before they turn 3..?  Are there invisible stats being generated somewhere that are going unnoticed or something..?  What gives?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Young horse training gives the horse a stat boost when completed.
The amount of stats given depends on how well you trained your horse and the amount of stats your horse was born with.
A horse that completed 100% of it's training gets a higher boost than a horse that only did 70%.
A store horse will get a lower boost than a horse born with 600 stats.

Oooh, ok!  Thank you!

Hmm, does it ever tell you exactly how much the boost is at any point, or are you just sort of left to do the math?  I don't remember there being an announcement so far, but maybe I'm just oblivious XD

It tells you how many stats when you do the final lot of foal training and select the discipline. :)

Honestly, It really helps me connect with my young babies ♥ I get to know their personalities and much more! For example, my colt, Rock Pools, is quite forward and bolshy, meanwhile others are quieter :)

Oh, okay!  Thanks so much everyone!

I didn't realize that the boost amount that happens at the time of specialization actually changes according to the amount of young horse training the horse was able to receive.  Thanks so much for clearing that up!
