New job, so nervous!

#118306 Posted on 2017-08-18 21:16:40

So I have been working the same job for six years, it was my first and only job so far. Recently I noticed how much the customer service aspect really was eating away at me and I gathered up the courage to look for a new job. Lo and behold I manage to find one that is full time (I'm currently part-time) and it's at a vets office taking care of the boarded dogs in the back which is a dream come true for me.

I'm just super nervous about everything because my old job is all I know, and I put in my two weeks and the terror has settled in "What if they don't keep me at this new job?! Then I have nothing!"

I know it's silly but I'm a bit of a worry wart and can't stop myself thinking these things.

I'm so jealous of your new job! In september, I start as a trail guide, which consists of leading a bunch of people who don't know how to ride around on horses that are far too well behaved for what they're put through and some horses are better behaved than others. It's stressful as I can be in charge of one person to eight people all on my own. Thankfully, after eight, I get someone else in the very back to help keep everything under control.

Anyways, good luck with your new job and I hope you have fun with it!

Change is always hard, but if we don't take those risks we don't get to grow into better things - and your new job sounds like a very much better thing! I mean, dogs...all day; can't get much better than that. Congrats and go into this new adventure with confidence! You got this!

Thank you everyone!

Oh my gosh Lady, that sounds crazy! I'm sure you will have a great handle on it. May your trail guide adventures have caring people and patient horses :D

Honestly that sounds like an awesome job. I'm not so great with people myself, but I'd love to hang out with a bunch of dogs, even if it is cleaning up their messes!

I'm sure you'll do great and wishing you lots of luck in your new job!

Something good always comes from bad things :) my first job was at a cafe and the bosses were real [insert nasty word of choice here]. They'd force me to pick up shifts I wasn't rostered on for (despite me living over an hour away and only being available on weekends) and then cut my hours to practically nothing the one time I said no (I'd already asked multiple times in the weeks beforehand for that specific day off because it was for a family reunion, gets to the day before and I messaged yet again asking for clarification and they told me I had to come in and I was like "I literally can't. You said weeks ago you'd work the rosters around it, then ignored me trying to ask you if you'd done it". They weren't happy about that). I was basically forced to quit or end up working 1.5 hours a day.

Then a job came up for my dream career (working for a very famous Thoroughbred stud) not long after and I was super nervous that I wouldn't be suited for it. And I wasn't. I got my butt kicked from sunup to sundown. My manager hated my guts. In the end I burst into tears and went to go walk off the job one morning after she yelled at me and she chased me down, then we talked about it and we've actually been good friends ever since. I came back again the following summer and did several more seasons after that. Then I ended up working in Australia for a bit, now I'm back in New Zealand working on another famous stud. It'll all work out if you really want it to.

Tl;dr - had a crappy cafe job, bosses forced me to quit, ended up landing my dream job, have been working my butt off ever since and loving every minute of it.

Wow that's crazy!! I don't have issues with my manager (she is the best) but mostly I can't handle all the angry/rude/frustrating customers.

I work in a large grocery chain in the bakery and I see so many people a day it's super draining. I'm so glad that you are now working in a place you love! That is really awesome :D I'm gonna make this work for sure.
