this is kind of late to post, but it kind of makes me feel bad not to post this.

On Monday, I found out the horse I've ridden for 2 years (not my horse), Justin, had passed away. While this didn't completely shock me, this still surprised me to find this out. It was also in an awkward situation when I had found out, so I didn't react the way I thought I would of have. He was put down 3 weeks ago, either on July 29 or July 30. For about a week or two before this had happened, Justin had gotten in an accident in his stall in which something had happened to his foot (I don't know exactly what happened, and it was also so serious, he almost had to be put down because of this). Because of this, he was put on stall rest for around 2 weeks. (At this point of the story I was only told this)My friend had found him colic-ing, and it was pretty serious. They ended up having to put him down, and it was later found out that he had developed a fatty tumor in his stomach. 

In my opinion, I think that Justin had gotten the foot injury from something related to the tumor. But hey, what do I know? I'm not a vet.

Many people can probably relate to this but, even though I found out that he had passed away around 5 days ago, I still feel like nothing happen. I guess I haven't come to terms with what has happened. I feel like that I'll come to terms with what has happened when I show up to the barn next time.

Ps even though I didn't know the horse, my heart broke and I fell like crying now.

I found out one of my old lesson horses was put down as well, and like you said, I wasn't really sure how to react until I returned to the barn. It's hard, though. We have a 38 year old and it's going to be so difficult.

I remember when my fav horse Mitten died. I was absolutely devastated because one of the girls from the barn texted me while I was still at school and one of my friends had to tell me stories of her riding horses in France to cheer me up. I know how it feels to expect to see him when you walk into the barn and it hurts to know that you will never see them. It's been about three months and I've since come to terms. Give yourself some time to grieve and try to befriend other horses. I'm currently riding a dutch warmblood named Sunny who's helped me.... not get over Mitten, but he's helped me through the healing process. And know that everyone grieves differently. I cried the first day when I found out and after that, I was back to making jokes and grinning. I told some of the girls I worked with about Mitten and they were horrified to see me so happy and chipper, but that's how I grieve. I dislike crying in front of people because of the awkward comforting. I hope you are doing okay as of now and I hope that you have a companion to bring you comfort.
