Anyone know what a color is vs a marking. for example. are grays a color or marking, are white a color or a marking is flaxen a coat color or a marking. thank you!

Black (E_ aa), Bay (E_ A_), and Red (ee) are all base colors. Everything else is a manipulation of one of those base colors. I wouldn't necessarily say everything else is a "marking", but everything else is a change/addition/manipulation to one of the three base coat colors.

Markings are white markings (roan, tobiano, overo, splash, sabino, rabicano, and white). If you use a marking randomizer, only those will be changed.

So if you use a marking randomizer on a ff horse, the ff will not be affected because flaxen is not a white marking. Grey is also a color, and will not be affected.

Your ff should not disappear with use of a marking randomizer.

To the extent of my knowledge, unless something has been changed:

Base color (black/chestnut), agouti (bay, wild bay, brown), grey, cream, dun, and champagne are the genes impacted by a COLOR randomizer.

A MARKING randomizer will impact rabicano, the KIT genes (tobiano, roan, sabino, white), overo, splash, and the appy markings (leopard, few spot, blanket, snowcap.)

The flax, pangare, silver, and sooty genes are special genes that aren't impacted by either color or marking randomizers (or at least were not the last time I played around with them.) There are individual items to use with those genes, but not the randomizers or the coat/marking applicators.
