out of curiosity mostly

I was browsing mustangs for sale. I look once in a while to see if anything fits the herd I am trying to create
I found this horse for sale for $200,000 http://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=623842 and it made me wonder if that horse is worth that amount of money what would this horse be worth http://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=637573 (no she isn't for sale) again I am just curious. I am trying to figure out how the pricing on horses is based in the event I do decide to put a horse up for sale.

Personally I don't think that horse is worth 200,000, I'd probably price it at 150k at most. It's a high stated horses, with a rare color, however it has Star Of David in the lines which is a major turn off and it's been bred a few times at a younger age-which again is a turn off. I usually price about 10k per 100 stats. I'd price yours at around 110k, high stats, not a common color, and good confo.

I totally agree they shouldn't be bred at such a young age. Earliest I breed my decent horses is 10 and that is ONLY if I find an exceptional stallion that I know will most likely pass away before my mares reach 15. 15 is my ideal first breeding age. I know my filly isn't a rare color. I am just trying to learn the in's and out's of horse sales should I decide to sell a horse in the future  I breed for conformation..I also try to breed for color and pattern as well. My herd is still very small on my mustang account so it will be some time before I have anything for sale.

Sorry I wasn't thinking when I started to reply I am on my paint account at the moment

I want to add on to Zest's point about Star of David.

I know that some mustang breeders - myself included - view Sugarpill as the post-recode equivalent of Star of David. She and many of her offspring have been very heavily bred. I don't think that should have any affect on the price of a descendant, but it does limit potential buyers looking to buy new blood for their herds. Just something to keep in mind if you do sell your mare eventually :)

While the horse has really high stats, and a decent confo, the non-specialty stats are way too high to be worth more than a 100k in my opinion. In order to actually place in shows, you have to have a low amount of non-specialty stats (lower than 60 in total for me). He would be good with breeding for color and perhaps conformation, but as a show horse? Not so much.

Edit: This is about the 200k horse btw :p

It depends on what you breed for. If you breed for conformation, the horse you put would be worth almost as much as the first horse. If you breed for stats, she's pretty good. You could probably get fifty thousand. Other than that, I have no idea.

It is hard to find a mustang stud with low non-specialty points and decent conformation as well as pattern I am looking for. Have a peek at mustang stallions with a minimum conf of 80. All available today anyway have high non - specialty points
(both public and private)

yHidden Acres, that's definitely an issue with high stat mustangs - many also have very high non-specialty stats.

While I can't promise I have the color or conformation you're looking for, you're welcome to look through my mustangs to see if there are any you're interested. None are listed up for stud but i'm always willing to stud them out. These with a 'c' in front of their names will have lower non-spec stats. the others are still being fed haycubes and will be converted at age 10. (It's also possible there are some that are 10 still on haycubes that i've missed, but can convert )
