new herd question

#114074 Posted on 2017-07-13 15:59:31

I have a Dutch Warmblood herd I've been working on since I first started the game, hoping to be able to breed good DWBs (any tips appreciated )
But I would like some suggestions for starting another breed. I'm thinking TBs or something similar but I would like suggestions on starting over.. should I purchase a foundation horse and go from there or find a higher level horse for sale and buy??? Any tips are helpful thank you :)

May I suggest paints, not only do they have many colors but they also have many patterns.

If you are picky with what horses you get from the EC, you will need a lotbof EVD to get a starting herd.

I suggest doing Appaloosas for color and pattern goals, plus their club is pretty active if you are into that.

When I start a new herd, I just buy whatever horses I can find that meet specific requirements. It doesn't matter if they're foundations or have a pedigree a mile long. I usually stick with at most three poors, and can be found for under five hundred dollars. After about two weeks, I start trying to breed colors in and step up the conformation.

Don't do Morgans. It's really hard to get them going. (Note that I sold all of mine ...) They're harder to find for the most part. It's going to be easier to do a more popular breed, but then your horses won't be as high in demand. I like Welsh Ponies best for colors. Miniature Horses also have a lot of variety there. (My sister breeds them.)

I get mine from the equine center and breed them myself. Once i get the foals from that breeding i have bought a few to breed them back to. so it depends on what you want from your herd if you want good conformation and to work on say color or pattern then buying your starting herd would save you time and money but if you want to do stats and conformation then your better off buying foundation horses and breeding the poor traits out of them.
