Showing off my colorful Trakehners foundations

#112451 Posted on 2017-07-02 23:01:50

I felt like showing off my foundation herd of Trakehners. I'm trying something a little different from the 'make a pair' idea and trying to go a little more like 'real life' so each stallion is getting a few mares to breed to and I'll keep the best and hopefully interbreed them until I need new lines. Then I'll freeze those and start again with some fresh Foundations.

Right now, I've got some frozen (since they were from the RC and already older) so I can catch up my younger horses until they're all 3 years old and I can start heavily showing them. My goal is at least high conformation, good stats, and at least 1 Cream and 1 KIT gene. I'm starting with Foundations with conformation in the high 50s/low 60s and hoping to breed up.

I removed some Gray and tossed some Randomisers in the mix! And here are the lovely Trakehners I have so far...

The Stallions
Brighthawk Aglaval - 56.75 Conformation. Cremello. My lowest conformation, but his color hopefully will make up for it and both of his 'Poors' are high 40s so hopefully can be improved pretty easily.

Brighthawk Pendragon - 58.63 Conformation. Black Tobiano Roan.

Brighthawk Taliesin - 61.75 Conformation. Smoky Black Roan.

The Mares
Brighthawk Branwyn - 60.50 Conformation. Palomino.

Brighthawk Caelia - 61.63 Conformation. Black Roan.

Brighthawk Elaine - 59.50 Conformation. Smoky Black.

Brighthawk Guinevere - 58.38 Conformation. Chestnut Tobiano.

Brighthawk Helsin - 58.25 Conformation. Palomino.

Brighthawk Iseult - 59.88 Conformation. Smoky Black.

Brighthawk Lynelle - 59.13 Conformation. Black Tobiano Roan.

Brighthawk Morgana - 58.25 Conformation. Black Tobiano Roan.

Brighthawk Nimue - 61.63 Conformation. Smoky Cream.

Brighthawk Saveage - 59.25 Conformation. Cremello.

Brighthawk Vivian - 58.25 Conformation. Bay Roan.

Brighthawk Ysolde - 58.63 Conformation. Black Tobiano.

I'm weak and got tempted by a few little Foundation girls I've noticed for sale for a while that appear to be on an inactive account. I felt bad for them since they weren't too terrible so....So I grabbed them since they had decent conformation.

Brighthawk Olwyn - 56.63 Conformation. Bay. Not amazing conformation, but she's got enough higher ones that hopefully pairing her with one of my best boys will even her out to having "all Good" foals.

Brighthawk Pridwyn - 56.25 Conformation. Chestnut. Same with the other girl; hopefully the right stallion can improve her conformation.

Brighthawk Tryamon - 57.63 Conformation. Bay. Decent conformation, should be a nice addition.

and since I like even numbers for my girls (for ease of matching with the boys), I grabbed a foundation and got really lucky with this girl!

Brighthawk Avalon - 59.63 Conformation. Bay (going Homozygous Gray). Very nice conformation for a Foundation, but really need to save up and remove that gray. I caved and spent a few more credits to get rid of the gray!

Other than removing the gray from two of them, I think I'll leave them alone since my herd is 'missing' bay and I do love a nice flashy bay tobiano or a pretty buckskin!

Now I just have to sit on my hands and not buy any more Trakehners! I'm planning to start serious training on the 7th since that's when the Trakehner Club is starting a contest and I'll have a project stallion for it (whose a lovely Chestnut Roan).

It's dangerous. I tell myself I'm done, then somehow end up with new foundations and missing many credits from tweaking gray genes and playing with color >.>

Some of my boys will be up for private stud in the future, once they're a little older. I'd think their high conformation paired with your girls would bring a foal up to at least mid 70's confo wise. Let me know if you want to play around with some outside lines in the future!! And good luck with the contest :)

I'm forcing myself not to touch anything. I'm happy with how everything looks now and I think it's a pretty good foundation to start some breeding lines.

Oh, I will definitely let you know. I'd love to find some nice Show Jumping Foundations to cross with some of my girls to get in fresh bloodlines and make sure I have a good second generation. It's a bit down the road, but I'm definitely interested!

If you're interested in a particular stallion or mare of mine in the future for a foal, just let me know as well. I mean, obviously not now, but I'm planning to do full showing, training, etc. to maximize their stats as much as I can get away with. I'm going for good conformation/stats before everything so I'm only planning 3-4 foals per mare at most. Anything that isn't higher conformation is probably going to end up on a side account to get deleted unless another breeder has a particular interest in them (like their color or if they want fresh bloodlines, etc.).

My stallions I wouldn't be against some outside breeding if people were interested, but they wouldn't be up for public stud.

But if you (or any other Trakehner breeders) are interested, just toss me a message and I'll be happy to work something out once they're older. Probably not going to worry about breeding any of them until they're about 16-17 since that will let me get 3-4 chances to get good color, stats, and conformation from each mare for the next generation.

ooooh they are lovely!
i've recently gotten back into my trakes again.
i bought a few second gens, and then bought several great confo foundies, and then it's sort of expanded from there.
whoopsie!

i'll definitely be keeping my eye on your lines :)

Thank you, Kahzie! I'm excited to get started. I'm getting some funds saved up so when I start on the 7th with the contest, I can get them all geared out in upgraded tack and all that for hopefully lots of good show success.

Oh, and thank you for the luck, Lúcra! Winning would be nice, but just trying is going to be a lot of fun too.

I really like Taliesin, Guinevere, Iseult, Lynelle, Pridwyn, and Olwyn. I'm starting to wish my own lines were a little flashier. Lol!

Thank you! I'm excited to see what they produce, but I'm resisting the urge to see until they have some stats to go with the flashy looks. Lol!

...and I was weak. Again!

I have to stop eyeballing the RC for Trakehners.

I couldn't pass this girl up though. Bay, no Gray, and 61.00 conformation.
