I have a large amount of horses, and I feel like I need to give some up but how do you pick the ones to get rid of?

You um and ah about it for ages, carefully whittle it down to a short-list of all the horses you can do without, decide you can't bear to part with any of them, then go buy 20 more horses just for good measure. XD

Seriously though, I have no idea. Let me know if you manage to figure it out. :P

Decide what your breeding goals are and cull everything that won't contribute to that.

There is no use in keeping a dozen different breeds and picking up any cheap horse you come across if you want to get a real breeding program started.

@ UlyssesBlue LOL! .... just..... ROFL!

@ Cinder80

Consider what it is that you are breeding for (Stats, confo, colour, shows, breed) and pick your top five of that choice (in stallions and mares, so you have 10 horses) and mark them so you don't loose track of those five.

Carefully go through your other horses and decide weather you like them enough to keep them or sell them to another player who will use them and love them.

Personally I'm a horse trader... buying and selling is kinda what I do and being ruthless with which horses I keep or sell is something I have learnt to do to get the best quallity horses out of not so great situations and circumstances.

Sometimes I will purposely keep the worst quality horses, sell all the good ones and turn the terrible horses into better horses. But that is just to challenge myself and prove that it can be done. bad stock can become good stock which can become great stock.

I chose 3 breeds (each has their own account) decided what I wanted to focus on and went from there and I can't bear to part with any of them. I do bring in fresh blood (new foundations) so that I don't inbreed and have a minimum conformation requirement for them.

I am extremely strict about what I take and what I won't.
I only focus on 4 breeds currently, and they all have to have less than or equal to 60 nonspecialty stats, have a decent conformation, get a good amount of wins, and I have to have had them since they were a foal.

Those who do not meet these requirements are not bred whatsoever, and if they are simply too bad then I may drop them. I haven't had to do that though. My bad horses are saved by how good they do in shows.

i ask myself that question all the time, and my solution is: buy more divisions and space for horses lol
i've got at least 8 breeds and 10 projects right now. the lockable divisions feature on the recode has been a lifesaver (and also a curse!)

I put on myself a strict conformation goal; which is to breed foals that have as good if not better conformation than their parents.

So, any store horses I buy, in order for them to be kept by me, and not be thrown into the RC; is to have an average conformation of 57 or higher. The only exceptions I make for that is if it has AWESOME coloring, such as this little guy here. I loved his Amber Champagne Dun coloring so much, that I couldn't resist keeping him, though he's below my conformation average. I am super happy I did keep him, as when I revealed his genotype, he is homozygous recessive for FLAXEN!!!! :D

Basically, as Danzy007 said:

Consider what it is that you are breeding for (Stats, confo, colour, shows, breed) and pick your top five of that choice (in stallions and mares, so you have 10 horses) and mark them so you don't loose track of those five.

I go off of Stats, conformation, and color myself; which is making for several lovely herds of horses.
Also, if you do expand out into several breeds, like me, I have a division for each breed, except for my babies, and keep them locked until I can work with each breed at one time or another.

Ah yes, FG reminded me that i do have one cut off:

Conformation!

I prefer all my stores (and almost all my lines but mustangs and a few arabians are stores still) to be at least 60+ confo. If they're not, they at least have goods in 6 or more confo areas OR are good colors/patterns. Like FG, i try to breed foals that are as good or better in confo than their parents (or at the very least have all goods or 60+ confo)

i actually have a division solely for good confo foundies that i find at the RC or for cheap. Once i get enough of them, they become a new project ;)

My breeding program is mainly focused on confo. Right ght now any Stallion that is under 60 is being let go. In the Mustang division. The biggest thing to do is figure out your breeding goals and weed out the ones that don't fit.
