Need Some Good Vibes

#106922 Posted on 2017-05-30 11:10:31

Barney was diagnosed with arthritis in his coffin joint about 5 weeks ago, I was told by the vet if the steroid injections worked he should come sound enough to be back to work as normal.

They seemed to take over a week to start to work, and he went lame again on Saturday in the same leg he has the arthritis, meaning the injections haven't worked or aren't working strong enough.

The vet is coming out tomorrow and I'll know if I still have a rideable horse, or if I will have to retire him. I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to get another one if he retires (I'm meant to be going to uni, and despite having my own money and savings, my mother would try and block me spending them and she doesn't want me to get another horse)

positive vibes please :( he's only 16, so not old for a horse :(

I'm a Christian, so I'll pray for you and Barney.  :)

thank you all, your good vibes and prayers must have helped.

vet was on time (surprise!) and it turns out the steroid injections have worked, so the arthritis isn't getting worse or making him sorer. vet believes he has soft tissue damage in his foot, and whilst we could get an MRI they're expensive and I would have to go to the south of Ireland and all it would confirm is where he's damaged himself. the treatment is the same if he gets me the MRI or not, he'll have to go out to the field for a couple of months. not sure for how long, but he'll be going up to the big retirement field after my exams finish at the end of June. will be sad not having a horse to ride over summer, and I'm now not sure what to do with going to uni next year as I don't know how long he'll be away for and I'll also need to bring him back into work at some point and do it slowly, but he should be rideable again!

I also might try and look for something on loan over the summer, while he is out, as I'm still paying for my stable too.
