Guinea Pigggs (image heavy)

#105616 Posted on 2017-05-21 09:34:21

So, I got my little guy yesterday and the name Murdoc won.
He is quite the fiesty little guy, but my older guys took to him right off. I had to slowly introduce them.
He has been following my other Peruvian around everywhere; probably thinks it's one of his other brothers.
For a 2 and a half month old, he has extremely long hair and floppy ears. Mello (my other Peruvian) had shorter hair when I first got him.
I tried "stacking" him to take pictures, but he is a little hyper. I also stacked his 2 brothers, Abraham (black and white) and Mello.
I have been waiting a few years to see what guinea pig would be best to add to my family, and he just caught my eye.

Anyone else have guinea pigs?

He's so cute! I don't have any guinea pigs but the animal shelter I used to volunteer at always had some. I love the little noises they make.

~Star Shine Stables~: Nice. :)

SueHeck: Thank you. :) Yeah, he is a little loud mouth. Abraham (the black and white) literally does not talk; his brothers do it for him. I adopted Abe, and he came from a really bad home; so he has always been a little reserved and quiet.

Entium: I would just go out and get some. Lol. They certainly take a lot of care though, especially Peruvians. Their hair is horrible, especially when you skip a day or so of grooming. You find everything but the kitchen sink in their hair. Hopefully you can get a few. :) They are worth the time.

Your guys are so cute ♥

I currently own a guinea pig, but to be fully honest I hate her so much. She's thankfully short haired, so grooming isn't a must. But you cannot touch her, nor pick her up really. She's very aggressive, and sometimes even just going to change her food out results in her lunging at you from across the cage >.< Only contact you can make with her is putting your fingers through the bars and sometimes she'll come over and purr.

Lucifer: Sows are a little aggressive from what I've heard. I'm surprised she tries to bite. Normally guinea pigs are extremely docile animals, and when they aren't friendly; they run away and hide. I've never had a problem with guinea pigs biting. A little nibble, but that is all.
I would wear heavy gloves and handle her.

I went to an agricultural school and all the guinea pigs that came and went were sweet, I have nothing against them. I just happened to get a not-so-nice one. I got her young (under a year) handled her frequently, but one day she decided she had enough. I've tried everything, even heavy gloves and handling. It has no effect on her as far went I've seen (she's  6 years old  now I believe). I just recently got her OK enough to where I can pick her up and put her in her carrier to go to the vet for nail trims. But I do try to handle her regularly, it just doesn't work out 95% of the time.

Lucifer: Wow, that is weird. I'm sorry. :( Maybe something is wrong.

~ Botania ~: I know, their hair is absolutely beautiful. I'm hoping to keep both of their hair continuously growing. Mello (the black guy) has had his hair shaved off a few times, but I'm not doing that anymore. I forgot how feathery a little piglet's hair can be. It is so soft.

*Gasp* Oh my golly, I never thought of calling them piglets..I love it!!

If you decide to shave it, you can keep a lock from him each time :) Make a wig, eventually, eh? Haha

Yeah! Lol. My little piglets.
But that is funny! The only way I would shave them is if they had extreme mat problems, but that's why I groom them almost every day. If you don't, their hair gets horribly tangled. They would make the perfect wig, though.
