Sidebar for friends

I think there should be a sidebar showing our friends. I constantly check my friends list to see who's online, and I think it would be more convenient to have a sidebar. Of course, it should come with an 'on or off' option. What are your opinions on this?

Oh and by the way River (The Equiverse moderator who loves to stop our counting game) gave me this idea
