A story of freedom

Feathered Gold Sweet Haven was born at Feathered Gold Stables on July 25th, 2018.Β

Β  Β  Β Β  Her sire is Sweet Pea and her dam is Sweet Lilybear, both former wild Chincoteague ponies that had been adopted when they were 7 years old from the Pony Penning Day auction, which is unusual; but as their band was becoming far to large for their territory on Assateague Island, the men in charge of the event felt it had to be done. The problem was, Sweet Pea wasn't just a satellite stallion in the band, he was THE band stallion! I noticed that by the way he protected the 12 mares and foals from the other stallions among the hundred's of ponies in the paddock. Tried to protest when I saw the tag around his neck, claiming that he was the last stallion needed to be sold; but sadly, my protests landed on deaf ears. :(Β

Β  Β  Β Β  I then decided then and there, that if he couldn't stay free, then he would keep that wildness along with one of his mares with him. I would train them both, ride, and allow them to be stabled together; even if meant many foals. :) Ended up being able to work out a deal for them both and took them home to Feathered Gold Stables. Needless to say, it was hard work trying to gentle them, as both had been wild for 7+ years, but eventually they came to trust me, and became some of my best Show Jumpers.Β

Β  Β  Β Β  They had three gorgeous foals together, all homozygous for CrCr, and flaxen!Β Sweet Abalone Shell andΒ Golden Ticket are their two oldest, both lovely mares that are doing excellent in their new homes. And of course, sweet sweet Miss Sweet Haven. <3 She just turned three years old and it has been decided to send her to my little farm known as "Feathered Gold Assateague Ponies Manor" on Chincoteague Island on the beach across from her ancestral home for showing, and eventually breeding. I intend on donating her last foal to Assateague Island for breeding; as her color is to die for!:)
