The Cavallo Dipinto—Italian for “painted horse”—is named for its eye-catching coat patterns. First bred by an upper-class woman in the late 19th century, the Cavallo Dipinto combined her love for Appaloosas and their wild spirit with the grace and showmanship of her husband’s Lipizzaner studs. The Cavallo Dipinto’s strong, smooth movements are desirable for both English and western riding; it is most commonly used for dressage, as well as western pleasure, reining, and cutting.
