Heartland Ranch

"Quarter Horse Breeder"

About Me:

I am a senior in college, majoring in Animal Science on the pre-vet track and double minoring in Business Administration and Agribusiness Economics. I applied to vet school this summer and got an interview this January. My hope is to open my own mixed practice (with an emphasis on large animals and equine) after getting my license. My family raises and shows registered pygmy and boer goats. I have recently taken over the pygmy herd and had the first pygmy babies on the ground in five years this last summer with eight more this past kidding season. While at school, I live and work at my university's beef cow/calf operation, meaning we raise beef cows from calves to replacement genetics and/or meat animals. So basically I live with cows (this year, last year, and next year) and it's kind of awesome. We do get to use horses on occasion when moving cattle and this past school year I got graduated from a grumpy, older breedstock Appy gelding to a very hot, kind of crazy Morgan gelding named Red Horse, or LBM for short (Little Big Man). He definitely is more go than whoa for a vast contrast with my own mare, but has definitely improved my seat in the rides I've had with him. This last spring semester, my roommate and I were sent out to a 40-50 acre graze that's half hill and the other half is steep gullies (loads of fun, I know) in order to gather up 116 head of cattle, move them through a couple more grazes before ending up in the corrals to do a health check then moving them over and up some more to their new graze. That's where we found out Red is not a big fan of riding in the dark as we didn't get done checking fence once the cattle were moved until the sun had set. Duly noted. Everyone is still alive and kicking so that's a plus, right?

I am lucky enough to have a horse of my own, a 19 year-old sorrel roan breedstock Appaloosa mare named Lily, who is pictured below. I have had her for six and a half years now and unfortunately have to leave her at home while I am at college. I am a career sparklehead, having held two local fair titles (first the 2013 Princess and then the 2014 Queen) and the 2015 princess for a local rodeo. That summer was spent riding in parades and in grand entries at rodeos. Needless to say, my mare is fairly desensitized now.

Here I have rescues and Quarter horses. Unfortunately, I did not get my account moved over after the switch, but I have been a member of Equiverse since 2011 with Arabians and 2013 with rescues, Dutch Warmbloods, and Quarter horses. If you message me and it's about one of my interests (4-wheeling, softball, horses, goats, fairs, etc) I can go on forever. Feel free to message me about anything though especially if you have questions.

The Rescues:

The rescues are adopted from the rescue barn and some from owners that couldn't sell them otherwise. I will put them up for sale once they reach 350 stats and 10,000 points, but I'll keep training them until someone buys them. As the stats increase, so does the price, which will start at $2500. All of the young horses will have foal training and the discipline will depend on the stats the horse has when I receive it unless otherwise requested. Each rescue that's sold is equipped with a full set of tack, has had their genotype revealed, and is boarded in a stable.
