traditional horse sketches

#85156 Posted on 2017-01-03 18:51:42

I want to know how I can improve. Help me?

I already know this has so many mistakes. I'd love some confirmation on what they are though, how to fix them etc.
(Ex. One nostril is way too high, which is one thing I noticed in the first sketch)

1. I sketched this in science, no reference, while we watched The Jungle Book. in the dark.

I'll be adding more as I sketch - which will hopefully be a little more often as I don't spend too much time on the computer these days.

I actually think that looks pretty good! The nostrils seem maybe a little small, or just lacking in detail. And the ears seem too narrow/tall, but thick also. Like they're too fleshy. But the proportions on the head/neck look great!

even if one nostril is higher than the other, I envy your nose skills...

Great job! The ears do seem a tiny bit off, like Iðunn said, mainly just too tall and thin, but overall pretty good. I need your talent. :o

Thank you all!

Iðunn - I will certainly put that to use! I've always struggled with ears and noses lol

Raptorfang & PoniesStars - Thank you! I've literally just practiced and practiced to get where I am. Two years ago they were pretty bad...

The eye looks a little plain to me. I can't see a pupil! If you look at a close up of a horses eye like the one below, you'll notice it's pupil is very uniquely shaped. It makes all the difference and adds SO much realism if you can draw an awesome eye. :D

You can add to your sketch even more by drawing the top of the cheek. :3 Just a single line under the eye can shape the cheek and make the face more real-looking.

The ears look fine to me. Your style is somewhat cartoony (like mine lol) so the ears look nice. ALSO. HOW CAN YOU DRAW MUZZLES SO WELL???
