Tell Me about your IRL Horses ^^

#255202 Posted on 2022-03-21 12:51:37

Heya guys, just wanted to see and chat to people on here who own horses! I myself own a couple of horses and it's nice to what everyone else is up to with theirs. Whether you wanna chat about training tips, future plans, or your current goals with them, I'm all ears!

As stated, I have a couple of horses of my own, 4 to be exact. The older two that we had for a while, about 20 years! Is Titas and Rosie, Titas is our gelding, don't know his breed, but he's starting to show his age, having arthritis, and is going blind in one of his eyes. Titas, was the first horse I learned how to ride solo on, as well with bareback. What I mean with solo is when I was a kid, I would ride those horseback riding trails, where you would pay to go and then be done, the horses followed each other one by one. Well, this is when I rode and I was in control.
Now with Rosie, despite being older, will chase you around, she's our mule mare.

The recent 2 editions are Mary and Croc, who we got in July of last year. Mary, is my personal horse, she's a mare thoroughbred. I ride her regularly on trail rides and that's pretty much it.
Whilst Croc, is my training horse. We got her, but she couldn't ride, so we ended up sending her to a different trainer, that trainer couldn't keep her under saddle. She would work, then whenever she got her break, she would forget everything he did. Now that I'm training her, we are working on mounting. She can be saddled and pretty much everything calmly, just needs work with legs touching her and being above her.

I considered making a forum on here about her training story, as I have made a forum on a different game. Just wanna see the interest of it on here before I do it first ^^

I'm super excited to hear you guys stories !

Your horses sound wonderful Sleepy. :) I hope we get to see pictures sometime!

ody, you mare is so pretty and has such a sweet face!

This is my mare Princess Glitter Sparkles, aka Sparkles. She is a rocky mountain horse mare probably about 15 now. I got her in August 2018. She was almost totally blind when I got her but went 100% blind last summer. She had a bilateral enucleation last October and recovered beautifully(she kept getting infections in her eyes and her 3rd eyelids were protruding). I absolutely adore her. She is broke to ride and does quite well but due to my own health issues I no longer ride. Just love on her as much as I can. She is also on the smaller side around 13.1hh which is perfect for me. She is also the inspiration for a children's book I have been trying to write.

This is Valentine. He was given to me a few years back as well. He is like a big puppy dog. Believe he is quarter horse/arabian cross. He is 18 now and really good under saddle but again I can't ride so mostly just give him lots of love. He is really sweet and is always giving me a kiss and nuzzling on me.

Sparkles also has a buddy with her who we call donkey Shelby. She is a mini donkey and is quite funny. She belongs to my sister(where I board) but if we ever move the horses she is okay with us taking donkey Shelby because her and Sparkles have been together since donkey Shelby lost her mom a couple of winters ago.

// warning for deceased horse mention if you don't wanna read any sad stuff

I used to have an elderly TWH named Rocky! Initially, I knew and rode him at a stable for a couple years before he got an injury that made him no longer fit to ride. Then, because my family was willing to take him in and care for him during this period, he was soon after given to me, and so with determination and enthusiasm my younger self became dedicated to helping him recover. Even once he was healed I never really rode him much again because at that point, despite still of course loving horses, I no longer had an interest in riding, plus he was getting older anyway, so he was basically just like a big opinionated dog. He was with me for quite a few years through thick and thin, through some of the biggest changes of my life up to date, and I could always count on him to be there. Unfortunately, almost a year ago, an issue we'd been working at holding at bay finally caught up with him and he had to be put down. Interestingly though, a couple months before that, his condition seemed to be miraculously quite stable during what was for another entirely separate reason an absolutely awful time of my life, and to this day a part of me wonders if he could sense that things were rough for me and decided to make sure to stick around long enough to be there with me until things got sorted out. Regardless, I sure appreciate that he did.
Anyway, for some more lighthearted stuff, he loved citrus fruits and splashing/rolling in ponds/puddles, and hated having his face washed. He was affectionate and friendly but liked being left alone sometimes too, and never once did he bite or kick anyone in the entire time that I knew him (if he was upset with you he'd always just nudge/shove you with his face). He was fairly headstrong but easy to pacify and really just an all-around chill guy. I miss him a whole lot but I'm glad I got to have him around for as long as I did.

I have 2 horses myself, I have Poppy who is my 9yo 14.1hh Welsh D x Arab mare (she's the horse in the background on my page) She's had a number of issues and we aren't entirely sure if we will be having her put to sleep this summer. she had a bilateral stifle arthroscopy December 2020, then as we brought her back into work we discovered she had grade 3 glandular ulcers and December 2021 she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the hocks and is currently rehabbing again. She was also diagnosed with Equine Asthma/COPD/RAO when she was 5. She used to do a bit of everything and now our focus is solely dressage.

I also have a 2yo Hanoverian filly who is grand prix dressage lined and will be my next project. I've had her since 6mo old and she's like a big dog!

Such beautiful horses and stories everyone shares!
I used to own two Swedish Warmblood geldings: Baron, an old showjumper I loved very much, who was put down in 2017. And Rokter a younger one who I trained and rode a lot.e W also had a mini Shetland Pony mare, named Saga, who we could drive!

Sadly I don't have any horses anymore as I live in the city, and can't afford it. But every now and then I get to ride a friend's Ardenner mare (Dana) ♥ In the future I plan on having a horse of my own again!
