Who else LOVES Thoroughbreds???

#179331 Posted on 2018-07-17 19:02:12

I know I am not the only one out there who absolutely loves thoroughbreds!!!

Thoroughbreds are literally the best horses on the planet. They are amazing and they are all so different and unique with their personalities and I just want to have a whole herd of them. I can't stress it enough how awesome TBs are. They can do anything from pleasure to jumping like a warmblood, and are quite a bit cheaper than warmbloods lol. TBs are full of so much personality and most are pretty spicy at times. I want to know who else on EV owns/rides/loves TBs and I want to know all about your TB!

The OTTBs in My Life:
I currently own 2 TBs that I ride all the time and its friggin awesome. Quinton, or Q, is a 16.2-16.3 hh 6 year old dapple grey gelding that was raced up until October of 2017. He was one that never won a race, but never lost either lol. We got him on November 17, 2017, and it has been a crazy ride with him since. When we first got him, he was really slow and lazy. At first, I was like "sweet, he will be an easy boy to train." But as time went on and he was still slow, we began to get worried that he was sick or had arthritis or something, and I was like "yay." Our vet discovered he was quite sore from his poll to his withers, so chiropractic work was recommend for him and he has been acting like a 6 yr old since. We suspect that he had an injury that he is recovering from, like flipping in the starting gate or maybe a fall while racing that we didn't know about. Now, Q is a cray-cray boy that has the most pathetic neigh I have ever heard. But then, he started to throw fits everynow and then, and we discovered that he has basically no sole on his feet. Guess who now has padded front shoes? Q does! And if I thought he was fast before he has literally tripled in speed so Koda might not be around long lol. Q loves to jump and so far we have jumped 3' which is a little high for his training at the moment, but we don't jump that high too often.

My other boy, Levi, is the total opposite of Q. Levi is a 17 hh 5 year old dark bay gelding that is a total sweetheart. Levi only raced 2 times and we got him Febuary 12, 2018. He is referred to as the "chocolate lab" of the farm because he acts like a doggo. Levi acts like a 20 year old lesson horse. He literally has no spook. He also needed shoes, so he got some and has perked up a little bit, but he will definitely be a Hunter horse. He has been an absolute dream to train, other than never picking up his left lead on the flat, which has been pretty much fixed since he got shoes! He also used to just plow through jumps, but now he is picking up his feet like a normal horse!

finally some one who UNDERSTANDS

to be honest though, thoroughbreds are one of the best breeds i've ever had the chance to work with. i've worked with quarter horses and warmbloods before, and they can't come close to the intelligence and versatility of the TBs! this breed has it's own personality to it, and they make the best horses.

a lil about my boy:

justin!

i unfortunately don't know that much about his younger life, as i wasn't his owner or leaser. i like to say that he was mine, as i almost leased him. he is an ottb, and did have a racing career as far as i know (he did have a racing tattoo, but as he was so old it had faded and almost impossible to read). he was a dark bay gelding, around 16 hands or maybe high 15s. i know his previous leaser very well, and she was able to do dressage with him, which i heard he was great at for being an older horse with arthritis. when she stopped leasing him, i was able to use him as a hunter/equitiation horse (2'3", however i was never able to show him). he was defenitely a character! he could 'smile' on command. to be honest, he was such a willing horse and a great jumping partner. he was a push-button jumper for sure, and we for sure had many long spots. unfourtunately, he was put down almost a year ago due to a non-cancerous tumor in his stomach. on a better note, i still have numerous videos and photos of him and with him.

if i had to buy a breed, i know i would for sure buy a tb!

edit: i forgot to mention that he was around 21-23 when i knew him and rode him!

Thoroughbreds are my favorite breed and have been for quite a long time now. It is a goal of mine to own an OTTB one day. c:

I have always loved thoroughbreds. Ever since I started to understand there weren't just horses and there were different breeds. I used to have my own ottb mare named Arwyn, her JC name was Spanish Candy. Unfortunately when I became a single mom of 2 I could no longer afford her and had to give her away. My mom currently owns two thoroughbreds colts. I came up with their JC names Supernatural Sin and Supernatural Silenc(should be said like silence) they are Bobby and Gunner. Both beautiful black boys. Their sire is Turkowar. They are not ottb. They were bred for racing, had some issues with getting them to trainers after my mom moved, she wanted to get gunner down this fall but not sure if she will. Bobby is too old to start training now and she is thinking of having him work with a trainer for dressage.

Arwyn (I wish all the time I had been able to keep her)

He was probably trying to bite my husband. LOL. He does not really know how to behave. He has never been with another horse other than a side by side paddock. His mama died when he was 4 days old on the operating table :( 0

I just happen to live and work on a Thoroughbred breeding farm.

I care for and raise thoroughbreds. I've foaled out quite a few since I started here.

I do not have a favorite breed but most of the Thoroughbreds I've known have been pretty good.
