Cerebral Palsy and Surgery!

#123928 Posted on 2017-10-10 05:26:02

Hi! Bandit here.

Well, with the recent developments in my life (as of the past 24 hours lol) I've decided to open a topic about something that I have and explain it a little bit.

I have something called Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is something that happens when your brain doesn't get enough oxygen. It will start to kind of "block off" areas of your brain that it determines are not important in the grand scheme of thingsΒ  (for example, the little area that controls speech or movement) in order to get enough oxygen to the parts of your brain that control vital organs and things like that. It can affect people in a lot of different ways.
A little about me:
I was born 2 months earlier than planned, and I weighed about 4lbs. I had trouble breathing and was in the NICU for awhile.
That is where I'm pretty sure that the CP part comes in. I couldn't breathe well, and my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen, etc.
Cerebral Palsy affects me personally in the part of my brain that controls my legs and their movement and muscles. I've had a few surgeries in my life to fix it and for the most part, they did to an extent. I can walk and do most things people can do, but my muscles are really tight and I'm not very flexible.

So, I went to the hospital for a yearly checkup yesterday and the doctors have determined that I need another surgery that is hopefully my last. Yay!
They're going to lengthen some of my leg muscles in both legs, put plates in my knees, and possibly lengthen a tendon that extends to my foot.
I'm going to have said surgery on October 30th.
I'm hoping all goes well!

Update 2/17/18
Wow it's been a while! Surgery went well, and I only ended up having one procedure done. Got my casts off 12/5/17 and now have leg braces. I'm doing physical therapy and things are going well!

Update 2/20/18
I killed my knee yesterday and had physical therapy, so I can't walk on it very well. Yay me lol

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
-Bandit

TG you better not injure yourself again. You'd drive Denver crazy, if you know what I mean ;)
