what is the f gene ?

I'm assuming it's flaxen, but I looked at the genetics guide and it said flaxen was Fl, so what would my horse with FF be carrying?

Flaxen used to be Fl and not it's just F so I'm guessing the gene guide needs an update xD

Okay XD

So then my second question is, basically all of my Welshies have FF, but, even the horses without any color modifiers (for example I have an ee aa chestnut with the FF gene), is not flaxen at all? So how does that work? Is it just with Welshies?

Flaxen needs to be homogeneous RECESSIVE, which means flaxens will only display when it is ff. And only on chestnut bases

So you'll see flaxen horses with ee xx xx xx xx ff genes

FF = not flaxen
Ff = not flaxen, but carries it
ff = flaxen, but only if also ee

Hope this helps.
