Appaloosa Mustangs

#30116 Posted on 2016-04-12 17:39:20

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to suggest adding the LP genes to mustangs, if this topic hasn't come up already.

Appys are pretty regular in a few HMAs, and I'd love to see them in the game too. Adobe Town probably has the most well known horses at the moment, given their large removal in 2014.

That said, they used to be more common before the zeroing out of a few HMAs and of course they're popular for removal because they adopt quickly.

If anyone would like any more information I'll see what I can do to provide it.

Here's Carol Walker's great image of Bronze Warrior and his band before their removal.

If I could hit support a hundred times, I would! That's the biggest thing keeping me from not picking up Mustangs (not that I need another breed...).

The only thing would be the new art, but I hope this could be implemented sometime in the future. I'd love to do mustangs one day and appy markings would make them so much more appealing, especially since we got rid of knabs which was the only other horse in game that could carry the lp genes.

Honestly it's always bothered me when Appaloosa genes aren't included for Mustangs on any game really. Lol.

I'd love to see some appies in my Mustang lines!

I'm so happy to see this is getting so much support!

@owlish olive- Honestly I very nearly decided to focus on a different breed because the LP gene seemed to be missing for Mustangs, but I thought there might be a chance it could come in later.

@shinku- I thought about that too. I know it would mean adding some more skins, but it makes more sense for them to have the gene (if it's possible to add it). Other than a few domestic breeds mustangs are pretty well known for carrying LP. Maybe the bases could be uploaded and users could do the design for the site so it doesn't have to be an extra investment?

I wasn't aware there were other breeds originally, but without knaps that does whittle it down for spots.

@cinch- I feel the same way cinch. Depending on the HMA you're pretty much going to find mustangs in every color imaginable, so I definitely notice if their colors are limited.

@castelau- I feel like spots might be some kind of addiction. I remember being really into 101 dalmatians too.

Folklore, spots are my everlasting addiction, both in games and in real life. You have no idea how hard I'm trying not to buy a 2 year old bay roan blanket colt in my area, who really needs removing from his current owners. Only reason my stable isn't full of spotty ponies now is that I'm not a big fan of the Appaloosa shape.

Castelau,

I know how you feel. When I was younger and I first learned about appies I was all about them, but as I got older and noticed what current appaloosas really look like I decided they weren't for me.

I have nothing against quarter horses, but most lines these days are basically quarters with spots. There are a few foundation lines that are much more strict with their breeding, but they still go back to early animals that are part thoroughbred or quarter horse.

I know the Nez Perce are working on recreating the old style by crossing some old lined appies with tekes, but at this point I think appaloosa mustangs are as close as I can personally get to what I feel they should look like. Probably somewhat my mustang bias bleeding through, too.

Point is, the contemporary appy is definitely no my cup of tea. There are a few horses registered with the spanish mustang registry that look more natural in type. I mean the lines are still crossed all over with mustangs from different places etc. but type wise I think they're probably closer to the originals. SMR troublshooter is probably the best known appy registered right now, and his sons crazy legs and gun runner are pretty nice. They looks like the kind of appy I would love to have.

Sorraia Mustangs Stallions

Edit: I should point out that if you poke around in pedigrees there are a lot of horses registered with insensitive, if not slightly racist "Indian" names. Just letting people know in case anyone decides to check out the SMR lines. I don't know why that's always a thing with mustangs but it wasn't pleasant for me the first time I checked them out.

I mainly like the colour, but no, I agree that the 'modern' appaloosa's have lost their functionality to an extent.

For me, I think the ideal breed would be a well bred, sporting KNN. Sadly, I feel that's quite rare to find, especially in France. (Country where a friends unknown origins leopard appy mare gets called a 'Zebra' by other competitors.
The reason I like the look of this colt is he's not an ideal 'western' horse, but he's coming out as an ideal lower level jumper (long, high set neck, short back, powerful rear end and a big shoulder, even if I doubt he'd have the brain or scope to jump an amateur course.)

I'd equally love a proper Mustang (endurance and versatility; have you seen the lady who's eventing one/some?), but alas nobody's yet been allowed to export any. My ideal would probably be colour, endurance and personality from a mustang, crossed with either a nice TB stud or a light but tall warmblood for some refinement and scope. But hey, that's in a dream world.
Until that could happen, I'm content wishing for spotty, nice-looking horses on sim games! xD

It's been a long time since I've seen an appy built for jumping. I can definitely see the appeal.

I haven't seen the eventer riding a mustang but I'd love to! There are definitely stangs large enough to do it and they're built for endurance. I'm going to have to look that up. How exciting! I'm glad you mentioned it.

Hm, you might be able to find someone crossing mustangs with thoroughbreds. I don't think they're popular choices yet for competing but a lot of people still just think of them as feral inbred messes. We've really got to get them a better public image. I could see a mustang thoroughbred cross doing amazing things on the show circuit.

I want to say someone in France is breeding mustangs. I don't know why...but I feel like there's a breeder over there somewhere...

Looks like there might have been plans at one time to get an association going but I don't see it anymore. The closest animals are in Britain right now. There are some breeders over there and I recognize the sires and dams of their stock. But yeah, that's not exactly easy access and those particular horses are not on the large or leggy side.

Googled some more and found a few thoroughbred/mustangs. Mostly they appear to be unplanned so there aren't many images of one being used for competing, but I managed to find at least one example.

Support. I also would like to see appaloosa/spotted markings for Vanners as well.

I do agree with everyone, I usually see Mustangs with different coats when I look up horse references to plan something that I'm writing or not, sometimes I pick the most extinct horses ever and never realize it.. Hah..

Oh I saw a Youtube video with this really cool looking horse that had a tiger's coat, I didn't click on it because I was watching/listening to a different video but it was hosted by BE AMAZED, I'll link it if I see on Youtube.

I think horses with stripes are Brindles, also found in cows, dogs, cats, and guinea pigs..! but it's most rare in horses, kinda like chimeras :D
