End of an Era

#270483 Posted on 2023-10-08 19:36:30

How is everyone feeling about the recent news of Equiverse coming to an end?

I never thought I would cry over a horse sim game at 26 years old, but I definitely shed a tear lol.. I've been playing this game off and on for YEARS. This is the only game I play so I'm not sure how I will fill the void.

I loved Cappals years and years ago, but moved to this game and never left.

I wonder where we will all end up.

Us mods found out a few days ago, we've been a bit of a mess since we were made aware. Even my lovely cohorts who you guys haven't seen in awhile.

I hope that EV sticks around for awhile, though for those who aren't aware, there is a Official Equiverse Discord Channel that will remain up indefinitely.

I'm also working on a community club with a discord channel where players can catalogue game images for nostalgias sake if the game ever leaves us. Abbey still reserves rights to the images, so any and all screenshots/game art still belong to the game and can't be used for anything other than enjoying the game as it is. But I'm sure many of us would like a place to remember our accomplishments.

Not all is lost, we're still a community ♥

I am disappointed and saddened. Mostly because I was reassured nothing like this would happen. I hope the game can continue on but the likelihood of game that has no development happening being able to generate enough revenue to stay open isn't good in my opinion. I hope I am wrong.

As for now, I'm deciding if I want to continue to put the time and work into my horses on the game or not. I'm 90% sure I will still be on to run clubs though, even if it is once a week.

I'm disappointed too. I didn't see it coming, especially with all the new updates being added. I know we will lose even more players over this news, making the end come sooner than later..

I also buy credits several times a month, but now with all this uncertainty, I'm not sure I'll be able to continue. I don't want to continue putting money into my horses if I don't know I'll still have them a year from now.

i'm sticking around, might start buying credits once in a while which is something i've been wanting to do for some time now anyway. if it goes down i'm not sure where i'd go, this is the only sim i feel comfortable on. i'll stay in the discord of course.

i guess i've sort of moved on to just feeling numb about it lol, just trying to focus on sorting my accounts out now. i know it's not going to be the same around here but i'd like to be around for every last moment possible.

I just joined the discord! (:

I'll probably stick around til the end, but I may be less active. I might try my luck at finding another sim.. there's just nothing out there I've found appealing. I did enjoy Howrse in the past, but it demands a lot of money if you wanna go anywhere with it. I just signed up for HorseEden.. I'm not sure I like how it flows. Gosh I miss the days when horse Sims were thriving D;

eh, it's not the end! i don't really mind that there's no more updates, i enjoy playing the game as it is.

as long as people keep enjoying the game and chucking a few credits into deluxe/autocare/autoshow/auto riding school it'll keep going :) just has to pay for itself.

I'm like a captain of a ship; staying till the end!!!!

I'll still continue to produce excellent breeding and showing stock!

I wonder if Abbey could let us know what the cost is to run the server so collectively we could all try and keep the game going. I’ve always loved the simplicity of EV vs other sim games. I just worry if there are no admins to keep tabs on the forums, that will for sure end things quicker because art has always had a part to play here.

I'm very shocked and overly sad, and to be honest, the news upsetted me greatly. EV has been part of my (almost daily) life for 12 years... Can you believe it?

It's hard to let something good to go even if I understand Abbey and the reasons behind her decision. I feel I was blindsided but I can't blame Abbey after all. I'm still processing it.
I really believed something positive has changed the last few months, since we got continuous updates - improvements which we have been craving for years. I was really positive and hopeful, even if I was aware that we are just a handful of players who are active.

It feels like home when I log in. I love the game aspect itself, the challenges for breeding, the artwork, the whole gameplay, and the community, the support, the positive and friendly attitude of the players. I don't think I made friends here since I always stayed kind of practical in messages, but there are many-many players who I think very fondly of and I appreciate them greatly.

I'm continuing to raise and breed my horses, at the moment - similar to forgottenland - I just numbed my feelings and follow with the routine. But I totally agree with Olympea as well... I always bought credits the last few years, but now I just don't know...
I know I'll have to grieve the game in time, but it's hard to face it now, so I'm just sticking here.

I honestly just returned to the game about two days before that announcement came out and I was quite blindsided. I had just read up on all the new announcements and was given renewed hope, but I do understand Abbey's side of things. That being said, with me now expecting and likely becoming a stay at home, I'll be having more time than I've had in many years so I'll be able to be as active as I once was soon. I'll probably ride the train until it goes down.

I, like Styx, would like to know operating costs so that I could help contribute in at the very least keeping the game up as is until/if Abbey ever decides to do more with Equiverse. I'll continue to purchase credits as I have off and on for years now in the hopes that will help. I just hate to contribute more than the normal if it's not really going to make a difference and I'll lose my stuff eventually.

I'm wondering if it's possible for a volunteer administrator with game programming experience to step in to at least maintain things as they are. Someone that isn't on a payroll or expecting profit but could address minor bug issues, etc. to help keep the game afloat?

@Olivia: i can relate to a lot of what you said, i've stuck to myself a bit but i love seeing all the regulars, newcomers, and occasional returners. i'd hate to never see everyone again...

i felt pretty blindsided when i read the news too, had to drop what i was doing to process it all. but i also can't be mad at anyone about it. i'm just grateful for all those recent updates and that EV's being left in a even nicer state than when i joined.

i've seen some people feeling guilty for not playing enough or not buying enough credits but it's not good to blame ourselves either. it's likely the solution wouldn't have been as simple as just having more people playing. it's incredibly unlikely this happened because a single person didn't support the game enough either. sometimes things happen and it is what it is now. just have to make the best use of what's left.

I sent a message asking if it's possible to get the monthly operations cost, I'm not sure if we'll get it or not but hopefully we can can at least have an idea.

The game is currently making enough to stay up, just not really enough to produce any more game development. So the good news is it should be around for quite some time if the income stays constant! Though I absolutely agree with the uncertainty of it all.

A volunteer admin would be an interesting thought, though that would need to be a direct conversation with Abbey. I don't know that she would feel confidant with someone else maintaining it at this point in time

I would also really like to know the monthly cost. I feel like that could really help us put things into perspective.

I'm happy with the state the game is in right now. All the new updates are wonderful and everything runs very smoothly. That in itself is enough to keep me playing! The uncertainty scares me..

Are there ways to attract more players? Have they tried advertising? I wish the newer generations were more interested in web browser sim games. I wish there was more we could do.
