Conformation Training

#264895 Posted on 2023-01-07 09:35:02

We all know that lots of people just breed for color/stats/NSS/conformation or all 4 of them. Nothing wrong here but...

I am a conformation clean line breeder and don't really pay much attention to stats or NSS.
And I know there are more of you guys out there.
We can work these numbers around because, stats change easily and don't have amount limits.

Now, conformation is a whole other ball game, this can only change if we breed with the horses to a certain limit of 99.99  and that's it!

Here it comes...now there are lots of people owning above 80/90...98 or 99 foundation breeds
that are LOCKED from horses created 2016!!

[Owner MIA for 2 years] > https://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=23779

And this is just one of many.

Locked horses will not age, so they don't die...and preventing people getting to these higher conformation horses.

These people are mostly:
1) Not online/playing anymore
2) Don't want to out source there high conformation stats horse,
to do [LOCK] nothing with them or only breed for themselves.

I know a lot of you will not agree with me and that is fine, everyone has their own opinion.

But for me as a pure/clean line conformation breeder, I would like to see the stats in Conformation totally different.
If a horse (let's say) has poor legs, why not train the horse a certain way, to get the legs stronger again.
That does not have to be easy, but possible!

Let me start with the beginning, because now the Conformation stats are too high.
There is not enough room to go to 100%, meaning, most horses bought are already around 45/50 or 60.

An option could be:

A] Lower the stats from a conformation of [example] 65.48 to a conformation of 6.54 so,

we have lots of training & breeding room to go to 100%.

B] Let the conformation stats go as high as you want, just like in the ability stats.

That would be amazing and means, I have lots to work on and a reason to stay longer in the game and not quit.

Now, it would be to difficult to reach the really high conformation stats, because most people keep/lock them or sell them to friends who...there we go again...LOCK the horse.

So, what do we get....we have to switch over to inbreeding, to get the [for instance] 98.54 stats and that is for me a No go.
Or, I have to choose to go over to ability stats or NSS training/breeding and let conformation go. Don't want to.

It would be great to train to WHOLE horse, not only ability/NSS stats.

I know everyone has their own idea's about that, great because, otherwise everyone would like and want the same thing
and then the game would fairly be out in a short time! ;)
So, lets talk!

I love it and agree really!

I want to train everything to my horses, I don't really care about the all four stats anymore, I actually want the whole horse actually.

I'm over here trying to keep my horses clean but it's rather difficult with breeding.. I have some good horses but rather then that I have no idea what to do..

And I keep trying to buy horses with say 1000+ stats or more, but I really don't wanna create them since I'm looking through the RC now more and more..

But I really agree with you honestly, I bought three gelds and it's rather a shame I can't do anything, I mean there's players out there wanting more horses to be bred- I'm one of them to keep up my stats for Thoroughbred and god knows what else I keep locked away in some divisions..

I'm actually thinking of selling my studs and broodmares since I don't use them anymore, and it's sad because I do have some Andy's I bred myself from a rather good andy- that I bought, and also a quarter horse too..

I'm just mish-mashing over and it's really killing me over here, I'm not likely going to sell my bred-babies which are horses I bred myself, obviously from what I was talking about.

And I'm just rambling on, sorry, but good point on everything.. I really do agree with you honestly.

Just want to mention, those 90%+ conformation foundations aren't from this version of the recode (and from before 2016, that birth date is the day the horse was imported). When the conformation system was changed from names to numbers, a lot of precode horses had a confo/nss discrepancy compared to newly created foundations. So I don't think those horses should have any influence on this version.

That is not the point. This is only one of the many out there. And being MIA for 2 years also has no influence?
I think these horses should be released from these people being MIA for so long.

The point is that conformation can't change unless you breed.
It say's Conformation & health...what health?
In real life, horses recover from injuries. I know a game is not real life, but we want
it to be as real as we can right? Because, lots of people can't afford a real horse.
So, why not train it all, so everyone can benefit.

Released how? They don't impact the game staying locked like that? I'm just mentioning it since it seemed like the original post linked them to this version of the recode when they're not.

I'm not against conformation changes, I just don't think it should be reliant on horses not from this version of EV. Not sure on the training aspect of it personally. Is this a suggestion or a discussion?

I have my own opinions but will not get involved in this.

I want to mention one thing:
"So I don't think those horses should have any influence on this version."

But what if those owners decided to come back and play? Whether we like it or not, they can influence this version someday. They will have a massive advantage if the conformation system is expanded as planned on the roadmap. There's an old post that recently got brought back about no-breed horses. It serves as proof that horses like them can pop up in the market at random. At that time, no-breed wasn't common to find, so the finder was lucky enough to find a bunch of no-breed horses at Rescue Center. It's very likely that those horses were locked for a long time or their owner returned from hiatus. If it's possible for highly desired no-breed horses to appear in the Rescue center, it's possible for a bunch of foundations with 80+ conformation to appear in the rescue center or the market someday.

That's a risk factor we have to accept and consider when we refuse to wipe the slate clean or recode the game properly. Errors such as the conformation system change should've been fixed right away. They should've fixed the existing horses instead of leaving them untouched and just fixing the future horses. If they shouldn't have any influences on this version then those horses, along with many others, shouldn't be existed in the game in the first place, IMO.

Admins expressed their desire to fix the showing system. The conformation system is also on the roadmap.

Will that only result in creating more horses that shouldn't be existed?
That's something we all should consider.

i don't really have a strong opinion either way on the conformation training aspect. i do want to say that i'm not too keen on the idea of 'releasing' horses from inactive players. we've had people return from long absences and hiatuses, and i personally don't think that penalizing players for being gone would be beneficial to the game.

It is just a discussion between us members and what you all think should or should not be.
I am merely curious to how people work this game (conformation side of it) because, I saw
a lot of people asking for that.

I just gave you guys, how I think about the conformation side of the game.
The only thing I don't get from this game is, why this lock system does not have a expire time,
yes I know, so people can come back...but 2 years?
I get it, when they are on a vacation for a couple of weeks or 2 months.
You can't tell me, that someone is not able to even login for only 1 minute to check things like
messages or something else in those 2 years?

Still, I'm not fond of locking horses for more than 2 months, so they can't die. That is called cheating in my eyes.
Horses like that very young and never age or die...then why do we have a special item to get them
back from the dead?

there are lots of reasons why people may not login for a long time :) an online game often is not a priority over real life, so it's not uncommon for people to set it aside to focus on more important things. we've had players come back after 2+ years in the past, so it's not unheard of!

the locking system is really helpful for me personally haha. i often use it as like a pause button for my horses when i don't have the energy or time to keep up with them. i can set them aside for a bit but still be able to login to talk with friends, etc without having to worry about all the daily care tasks. then, when i'm able, i can pick things right back up where i left off. last year there was a period where i was going through a hard time and had horses locked for months. it was nice to still have them when i was feeling well enough to unlock them and continue.

Well I think I see things a little different because, I think I am a lot older then most of you here.
Nothing wrong with that, but I like to play these horse games, when they are more realistic to
real life. Of course I know it still a game...but that makes it more fun.

Conclusion in my eyes.

Change the conformation decimal point from average 85.74 to 8.57
Let everyone train up the conformation to 1000, problem solved and with the old horses high conformation horses too!
With the training, I don't mean in shows! Because conformation is all about the build & health of the body.
So, train these (let say: Poor Legs etc...) in your own stable/arena to get the horse to recover
from poor to better body parts.

Saying that I agree with you on that one right there..

It makes sense to train up poor body parts, it reflects real life, in some way?

I'm primarily a conformation breeder. And I enjoy it because it is harder than stat gain or color. Conformation can take generations of careful breeding to be successful, and that makes it rewarding.

I find it a bit odd that you claim - because of your age? - to want more realism. But, a horse with 6% legs or a 8.7% back would likely not survive. I'm not sure I understand how lowering the conformation scores in that way would serve any kind of purpose. If realism were the goal, why not have conformation be impacted by training and showing in a different way. Like a horse could be injured while showing, then they'd need rehabilitation to regain that conformation score. Or conformation impacting how a horse shows in some way - like great legs boost agility or a strong back helps with driving. That would make showing more nuanced and provide more holistic breeding challenges. But, those types of changes may be outside of the purview of what the owner wants to do with the site.

As for "releasing" inactive players' items, money, or horses... why? They are not competing against you or impacting any of the current markets. Sure, there is a chance one of those players might pop up and do something, but they have that right. It's their stuff. It would make more sense to delete inactive accounts rather than give away their stuff. But again, that's outside the purview of the owner. And there are players who go on hiatus for a year or more only to return later. If EV is willing to pay for server space to keep that account info, then it shouldn't be a big deal.

I would enjoy it if conformation were more important, since it feels a bit... nonfunctional? at the moment. But we just have to wait to see how the roadmap ultimately manifests in game.

Just gonna ask real quick Wrangler, how long have you been playing EV? it seems you used to play before and created a new account, as I've never seen a lvl 4 member buy deluxe(lvl 4 at the time) :)

I bought deluxe account the day I joined EV...it's not super uncommon for people to upgrade right away.
