Mack's Progress/Journey

#25396 Posted on 2016-03-31 23:08:40

Mack is my goofy Flaxen Chestnut Pangare Haflinger Gelding.

First Up Conformation/Looks
He's always had decent conformation, but I was never happy enough with it. So, after many years of hard work, look at Mack now. Of course these are just my opinions of Haflinger conformation.

2011 (When his conformation was at its worse)
His color was pale at the time too. His neck was thin, and mane was messed up from him rubbing it off.

2012-2013 (A little better)
He was getting bulkier, and his color was coming out. Hair a tad better. Though, he still didn't have his 'cute/majestic look'.

2014 (This was where he got the cute look)
He was now beautiful like the horses in his pedigree. This was my goal.

2015
I never expected this to happen. He grew taller, and filled out. Plus his color changed, and so did his personality. He became a lot more willing, and interested in learning. Less clumsy, and less bad habits. His mane and tail grew, to below his shoulder. I'm just so pleased!

I'll write about movement, bad habits, personality, and other things later.

For those interested he eats Producer's Pride Sweet Feed. Here's his pedigree Mike's Major Mack

Feel free to brag/show off about your horses' progress/journeys as well.

Thanks! His mane is getting longer, which I'm super excited about.

@mardi gras: A few horses on his mother's side have some odd conformation. His dad's side is lovely. They are very lovable, as long as you work with them actively. They can be a little too smart for their own good. That's how Mack got his bad habits, and I'm afraid some may come back. I gave him a break all winter. Mostly due to poor weather. He's the biggest attention seeker ever. I have multiple videos of him, chasing away Rosie, just so he can have all the attention to himself.

@Silver: He certainly is. Though, at the moment he's rolling in mud, just to make sure I'll groom him tonight.

yup. the outfitter I worked at had tons of Haflingers and even though they were adorable, they were mischevious. like one of our trails had two loops and at the end of the season, at the intersection, some of the haflingers would always turn for the barn! and it was only the flingers.

and they are fricken attention grabbers.

Man I know how producers pride sweet feed works xD I feed it to my horses too, I don't have any pics right now (or of when she was like this) but we rescued a filly that was taken from her mother and not fed, boy she was skinny. We fed her the sweet feed and other stuff to help her gain weight as she was rail thin, we had to carry her she couldn't even walk. After a long time about a year and a half to two years she gained weight and looks great even though she was mixed with a pont and a big draft so her confirmation is terrible lol I'll edit with a pic of her now
This is Maggie(aka Mag Pie which is where I got my ev name)
And the other gorse with her is..... A haflinger made named Mattie(aka Honey Bee)

It's a health thing. Sweet feed is nowhere good for horses or any animal.
BUT if it works for you then I am in no way to judge how you think your animal should be fed :)

Just like people, some do good with sweets and junk food, and some don't lol.

In no way did I mean it in a rude way! Just none of my 5 horses have done well on it :(

@Destinar: I didn't find it rude at all c: He's the only one eating Sweet Feed
Rosie (20) & Sidekick (22) - Are on Purina Senior Feed. Works well for them. Sidekick also does in hand jumping. No shows. But, just for fun, and enjoys it boop.
Rosie on the other hand is my trail horse, and main horse I ride.

Shawn (11 months) & Chance (15) - Eat Purina Minature Horse feed. Works well for them.
