*Make adult and foal Paint markings the same

I apologize if this has been said before. I keep getting cute Paint marking foals that are really pretty and then they grow up and the adult markings aren't the same at all - half the time they're just round splotches in random places, not following any common horse pattern. It really ruins the horse for me when it's not nearly as charming as the foal art - a lot of them just downright don't look good at all.
Is there a way the adult art can have the markings edited to reflect the foal patterns? It'd be nice I think!

Is this referring to any particular pattern, all patterns, or just KIT patterns? Editing all of those files (especially those that are both single and double dominance) for every breed would be a herculean task.

This is a *SUPER* big turn off for me. I virtually don't play EV anymore for this reason. Foals do have more realistic paint patterns compared to adult versions. Adults ought to be updated to have more realistic patterns like the foals do.

I don't understand why foals would have been given such different patterns if updating adult versions wasn't going to be a thing...

HUGE SUPPORT!!!

(I made a post about this exact issue a while back, see post here.)

River, pretty much any that don't...match, I guess? Like, for instance, in Evermore's old post they highlighted Chincoteagues. Mustangs are another that look particularly jarring due to the weird paint patterns.

Not all patterns are affected on every breed but some just ruin the adult horse!

I'm not truly confident that I could make those changes myself (which is the only likely way it will happen), and if it were even to be attempted we'd need a list of which breeds have the inconsistencies in which markings. D:

In case you need examples, just bred an overo Welsh pony today:
https://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=997647

And luckily the adult is showing the other side, but it's the white legs that just don't match up.
If you look at his dam (https://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=536756), I believe all adult overo's look like that. Both hind legs are white, the foals are white. And the foals right front leg should be white as well.

Just want to point out that foal art is shared across multiple breeds, so the only way to make it match is to give each breed group the exact same adult markings (e.g. Appaloosa, Friesian, Mustang, Quarter, AND Paint will all have to show the same markings regardless of their differences). Which might be not only uncanny to look at lol, but not very easy to pull off considering the differences each breed has IRL and in their artwork.

^ What Bubbles said.

We also have to keep in mind that, in reality, this is a very small game with a limited number of people working on it. Redoing the markings for every single breed is a massive undertaking with no real purpose other than very minimal aesthetics. We just got the really nice foal art that was worked on very diligently for us to enjoy, and personally I'm just appreciative of that. I do support the changing of silver on adult horses to look more realistic, which was another suggestion, and would also consider supporting a suggestion regarding the realism of a specific pattern and possible changes that could be made to it, which was I think sort of the original suggestion on this thread? But I do not support every single marking being changed just to match the foals, because, as Bubbles said, a lot of breeds would end up looking similar and they'd lose their individuality. And also, as I said, it's just such a huge task that imo isn't worth the hours and effort.

I would be happy if only adult mustang white patterns were more realistic. Foal and adult matching would be awesome, but having realistic white patterns for adult mustangs would be enough for me :)

River do you mean making the changes coding wise or art wise? If it's art wise I'd be more than happy to assist. Please don't take on everything yourself, you have people here willing to help who have invested in this game for years!

I´d love to help also with new art if needed :) Sadly I have no idea about coding.

This is highly unlikely to happen since, as Bubbles said, breeds share foal art. Matching adults to foals would make markings match across breeds, which would reduce the individualism of each breed.

The only practical way to update it would be an enormous update which would redo the markings on each breed, then show matching ones on foals. And for something that's non-essential that's a vast amount of work.

I hugely support this. I know it would be a lot of work, but why was such a change made to the game in the first place if it wasn't going to make any sense? I absolutely hate the foal art because it never matches up to what the adults look like. I'm even more upset about it now that it is in place until the horses are two years old, which makes no biological sense at all. What yearling has anyone seen that looks like a foal? Why can't we at least have a way to toggle the adult art to know what the horse is actually going to look like instead of waiting two full weeks to know?

You have an adult toggle in the foal preview section when breeding horses. You can also use the wardrobe in the inventory to see what your horse will look like. The foal art being changed to 2 weeks long was decided by a site poll, because players wanted to see the (long awaited) foal art for longer.

I agree with Stash. I was under the impression each breed would have their own foal type (as was sort of hinted when foal art was in development) and was under whelmed when foal art was released.

I know of other games with foal art, foals that share the same "base" but the foals look like the adult versions, even patterns.

If other games can do it, why can't it be done here....?
