Who Here Has a Real Horse?

#143864 Posted on 2018-01-28 09:37:32

Here's my boy Coco c: I've had him since I was 12(and he was almost 13) and now he is 24! He's a morab gelding and is my first actual horse (I used to share a horse with my sister until we got Coco so now we each have one)
Unfortunately his age is catching up with him and so I can no longer ride :(
And unfortunately lately he's been getting worse.. getting a vet out tomorrow. So here's to hoping it's nothing serious!

This guy has taught me everything. We started with western and transitioned to english and was even jumping up to 2'5"! (haha I know that's not very high.. but for me it is!! XDD) He's always been bitless ever since I've got him because he never responds well with a bit(could be from his past owners.) So I bought him a snazzy purple bridle as seen below ;D haha We never did any shows though because he just isn't really the showing type of horse. He was a lot to handle when he was younger XD He's just a hobby horse who LOVES the trails.

I like Arabians. Will never own one after working at an arab barn though. XD I shall admire their prettiness from afar. Have vowed to never own a hotblooded horse after them though. lol

I absolutely LOVE miniature horses! Have always wanted one.

Paso finos are absolutely amazing horses as well! Does she gait well?

I've only had the pleasure of knowing one Haflinger- his name was Dandy and he was an absolute doll. Your boy is absolutely gorgeous!

My grandpa used to work at a show jumping place that had a lot of arabians. He says he absolutely hates them because of how hotblooded they are. He said the stallions were the worst XD hahah
I'm glad my horse is only half arab.. I'm not sure I can handle a pure bred haha

@sib -- did you get your haflinger gene tested? I've always just called them chestnut.

I've found if you have more than one haflinger in a herd, they become friends and act like mischevious little turds, haha. I've known a couple dozen of them, and they're strong and hard workers , but have the spunkiest personalities!

Edit - just realized autocorrect changed spunkiest to stinkiest...

Arabians are one of the most intelligent, willing, and beautiful horses I've worked with.

They are also so accident-prone it hurts. XD They were also so easy to start up a colic that there had to be someone patrolling the barn 24/7- especially when the season started changing and the weather started getting bipolar. XD It was hard. I'll admire them from afar, but again, I'll never own a hot blooded horse for as long as I live. lol

I used to ride at a place with all Arabians as school horses. They were gems. All mares kept in the same pasture too (the problem comes when they introduced men amiright)

@BWWCC: Her gaits are wonderful, smooth, and she's very good on the trails. Unfortunately, there's a good few Paso Finos out there that are hotblooded, and spirited. She's just a wonderful exception, and people often say she's the sweetest mare they've ever met. Her canter and gallop are very easy to sit as well. She's the perfect horse for me, as she likes to go both fast and slow, and has endless energy.

Thanks! He's a goofball, that would much rather eat than work, but he's a good boy.

@marigold: All Haflingers are typically Flaxen Chestnut, and the vast majority have pangare. Any that don't have flaxen manes/tails generally aren't accepted into the registry. His pangare is pretty minimal compared to other Haflingers.

I has one horsie XD his name is Apache Night Hawke, but we just call him Hawke, or Stinker, (barn hand at old barn called him Trouble), or Silly, or Couch XD. He's a horse of many names. He's a first generation NASH (north american spotted haflinger), which is a pretty new breed out there (2003). He's a cross between a haflinger and a paint, so he's basically the best of everything, and I love him even though he's dragged me across a few arenas. He's pretty much a one person horse, but he'll let me give lessons on him if I have a "chat" with him.

he's just a big derp

EDIT: just found this XD

My grandparents now live with us and they brought their pony and two minis, so technically I can say I have them XD Plus I was saying I had some even when they weren't living with us sooo XD

This gorgeous girl is Shadow, she was rescued by an uncle of mine after he found her tied up behind some cows at a farm (he had gone to said farm looking for cows). They guy complained about her the whole time and when my uncle was getting ready to leave he decided to see if the guy would just let him take her. Thankfully he did. She was covered in cow manure and it had messed up her mane and tail so bad that both had to be cut down pretty low to get past the muck and knots. Her feet were bad, bud thankfully she has had no lasting effects from that. She was and can still be at times, extremely head shy, did not trust men at all and barely tolerated women. We had to get her used to people wearing hats, gloves, coats, pretty much anything extra. She is the sweetest thing ever, except when she is being the boss of the field, or so Arnie says XD

This little guy is Arnie. Both he and his "brother" Chance are miniature horses. Arnie was actually the half sibling of the miniature dwarf horse my grandparents owned, Karrie, but sadly due to a leg problem she had to be put down before she was even a year old. Arnie has a bit of an under-bite, but it just makes him more cuter and adds to his babyish type charm (even though he is really older then Chance, you wouldn't know it). He has the girliest cry, which he uses whenever he thinks it can get him attention, shh he isnt a baby... okay maybe he is, but look at the face! Honestly, the first picture of him here is one of my favorites I have ever taken of him.

This is Chance. The breeder we got Arnie from told my grandparents that he was returned by the people that bought him as they didn't like his color (what?!). He is the sweetest thing ever (okay they all are XD) and he is really just a laid back kind of guy. He did suffer a back injury one winter, due to slipping on the ice, but he hasn't let it slow him down one bit! He is the youngest of the three, but most times acts like the oldest XD He is very mature for his age, lol XD Love this little guy to pieces (note he is also taller then Arnie, leading to Arnie being the baby of the group xD)

I have a real knack for catching the ponies with their tongues out XD

I have a total of four horses currently.

Mi Vida Loco (aka Loco)

He is an Arabian cross gelding, my guess is Quarab and he is estimated to be around 7 years old.

Ladybug

She is a Miniature Pony mare, technically my nephew's pony and she's said to be in her late teens early twenties.

Pharoh

He is a Paso Fino gelding, my mom rides him the most and he's probably the sweetest of them all.

Cairo

He is also a Paso Fino gelding, and the most high strung horse that I've ever owned.

Valentine is my 16 or so year old gelding. His bday is Valentine's day. He was given to me by my sister this past March after about 8 year gap for me between horses. He is a really good boy.  We are also currently mini shopping to find 1 or 2 horses to use for visits to nursing homes, group homes, etc.. Anyway Valentine is probably a qhxarab cross.
