Andromeda, yes they can. But like Oswin said, be mindful of the species you want to live together. Peaceful, less bright fish are better. I had success with tiger barbs, danios, and gouramis with my betta. BUT some of my fish were aggressive species and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a HUGE tank so they don't feel like their space is being invaded. My tank was well over 100 gallons and my different species preferred different 'levels' in the tank (that's a tip I like to give; different species prefer being at different depths, so you can stagger to try to prevent unnecessary confrontation).

I have limited space to work with but am a huge fish enthusiast, I keep planted tanks with koi swordtails, cherry shrimp and a few guppies. Then we also have two bettas one male and one female. I currently have three tanks running and a fourth in progress. We have a 10g in my daughters room, a 15g fry/shrimp tank and then 2 26g bowfronts.

Thanks, and no. The male is kept in the 10g and the female is in the 26g. Our male is older and very chill and would likely be fine with our female but he has a lot of finnage and has a hard time in the current of the 26g, he does a lot better in the ten gallon which just has a sponge filter where as our female is very active and does well with the activity in the current main tank.

My dream is to eventually have a huge aquarium (talking around 2,000 gallons) so I can keep koi. It would probably be the centerpiece of a room. Unfortunately I can't do that right now. Far too expensive and I don't have the space.

That would be amazing, my daughter loves koi but we definitely won't have the space for them in our near future. She plays the phone game zen koi to help her relax.

@Vos I've always wanted a big aquarium to. I've always thought it would be so cool to have one of those rooms that basically is a built in aquarium.

Koi would be so cool to keep, in a huge aquarium or a pond. They're really pretty, along with goldfish. Someday in the far future I'd like to have a fish pond, but with our winters I'll probably have to invest in a heater or something. Not sure how fish would do in a pond that freezes over. xD

I wonder if it would be possible to McGyver some sort of 'base' for the pond that can be heated when the water gets under a certain temperature?

I haven't owned a salt water tank before, but I did babysit my friends tank for half a year while housesitting for them when they went away, so I know the ropes :D Any for our most recent community tank I think it's about 40-45ish? It's an older model which was discontinued, so I can't find the exact size anywhere, but I'd say my guess is pretty close. And the stand one is 420l, which i think is roughly about 100 gallons??

I used to keep fish, mainly bettas, and I usually had an African Dwarf Frog to keep my bettas company. I just had a larger fish bowl that I kept on my dresser, but then life starting getting in the way, and when the last frog died I just sorta gave up. I would like to have them but i'm gonna be busy this summer sp it wouldn't be fair to the fishies.
