NaNoWriMo Panic

#125805 Posted on 2017-10-28 21:02:12

So NaNoWriMo starts in only a few days and I am freaking out. Between my two month old daughter and my own scattered mind I am far from ready. I am a planner and I currently have plot holes you could drive a bus through and the end of my outline in currently non existent. I don't even think I currently own enough coffee to get me through the first week. Is there anyone else participating this year?

A little back ground for those who don't know. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writers Month. During the month of November there is a challenge to write a first draft of a novel. The goal is to reach 50K words which is the average fiction rough draft. Trust me it sounds a lot easier than it is.

I know a few people who are doing it. I even tried it myself one year. I know that feeling, lol.

When I first heard of it I thought it would be fun but most people's stories sound super stressful! How's the novel goin?

I'm sort of doing it ... haven't even posted my novel on the site, lol. I'm just doing a novel with no clear word count goal in mind and seeing how far I'll go. XD

I hope you have better luck than I!

my 17 year old is trying her hand at it this year she has about 300 words as of now. she is has a workable plot, and she is just letting it go where it may within the story outline.

Ive done nanorimo before. The only thing that kept me going was the vending machine at the library where it was held. It was a lot of fun though. If you take your plot and characters seriously, but brush off the rest of the stressful things like time and numbers of words to reach, (and eat lots of sour candy it helps you think.) you'll do just fine. If you focus on the amount of words or your deadline (well think about the deadline to an extent obviously just not overpoweringly) it just doesnt allow any brain room for character and plot development which make the good stories, not the amount of words in them.
Hope this helped relieve some stress!
