Meet Owen!

For my birthday on the 19th, I got a betta fish! Luckily, I had a 10 gal. tank with a filter running (but sand). So we got the sand out and put in some gravel she also gave me. Monday I put him in (I let the tank sit a night/day to clear up etc.) and he seems to be adjusting well. He's approached me several times, and I'm excited to get to learn his personality. He seems to be a pretty outgoing, confident fish, but not sure yet. I love him so much! His body is a dark red (I thought it was black the first day lol) with some purple. His tail is absolutely stunning, a deep red with purple and some blue highlights.

His name is officially Owen!

Don't mind at all. In fact, I am very happy to show off my baby boy. :D

He is beautiful lol I had one his name was Max haha I know weird name for a fish. I had that thing for years no kidding.

If I remember right my bettas were named Wildcat and Blue xD

Decent starter setup for him. If you don't have a heater, he'd appreciate that and thrive better (tropical fish - degrees in the 80s).

My longest-lived betta was a sapphire blue boy I had for about 7 years. Love these little fellas.

I had a beta who only lasted about a year and a half, without a heater he was very dull and not too lively. (they "slow down" in cold temps.)
I now have a beta, though I have only had him a few months, he is doing so much better than my other one ever was. I have a 10 gallon tank with a filter, heater, and aerator.
The temperature should be kept between 78-80*F (I keep mine at a steady 80, my beta and pleco seem to enjoy it the most)
Betas like lots of plants and places to hide so make sure he has lots to explore! (be careful of things that can tear his fins though)

Yep, planning on ordering a heater as soon as I can! I had done tooooons of research on bettas prior because I've wanted one for a while now. I'm planning on buying him some live plants if possible and am a bit of a worrywart when it comes to tank decor tearing his fins. :p I sent my dad an email with quite a few items on it because I want to spoil my boy rotten! I also plan on getting myself an API test kit (on that list) so I can see the water quality and do stuff with it accordingly.

And on the sad, sad day that he slips into fish heaven I will have a nice place for a new betta friend.

just a tip, usually your local pet stores do water tests for free!

I have a Beta Fish named Royal. Gorgeous Royal Blue, like the Kansas City Royal's.
