Visibility and legibility

#98234 Posted on 2017-03-20 07:23:04

I realize that it is now spring, and I appreciate that this website reflects that (no boring monotony here!). However, at the age of 51 years, I am finding it difficult to read this site's light green letters against a white background. I haven't even fed the horses in my first division yet and I have to take a break due to the headache I've developed. Perhaps a darker green?

how light is it showing up for you? personally i think there is quite a contrast...
is there just a specific page that is giving you troubles or is it mostly everywhere?

It's pretty much everywhere. On the left size of the screen (under "Home"), the white lettering on the light green background is even worse. For what it's worth, I'm using a Kindle Fire.

Yeah. There isn't a lot of contrast.

Just so you know, the website colours are always like this, and do not change with the season. Green is the thing.

From what I can tell there is sufficient contrast in the colour choices - if you are experiencing trouble with a specific device, I suggest seeing if you adjust brightness or contrast settings on that device and see if it is the display causing the issues (rather than the site itself).

I do artwork. I can't adjust the contrast on my screen or my artwork will come out all funky.

I support this. I feel like, if it's hard for some players to see parts of the game, that's slightly unfair to them.

It would be nice if background choices on the toolbar and sidebar were available. Where you just go into "settings" or "account info" to change colors. Say, blue, black, orange, etc. Just basic color choices.

Maybe if the game had different skins available, which you could set in your account settings. The current one would be default, but others could be available which defined different colour settings for text, backgrounds, etc. One of these could be a 'high contrast' skin which made things easier for those with vision issues.

I am actually considering a rework of the layout - nothing major, but I could consider the accessibility of colors with the rework.

Skins is not something I would like to consider, however. I knew that would get suggested, so just wanted to jump in and say that it's not something I'd be willing to spend time on. Sorry!

For a temporary solution you can use browser add-ons like Stylish to change how colours and such display on certain pages. It requires a bit of technical knowledge to put together though, so if you or anyone else want to try this I'm happy to write the code and help you install it.
