a chestnut would be:
ee aa
ee Aa
ee AA

to produce a chestnut foal you'll need parent horses that are either ee and/or Ee. The agouti (A) doesn't necessarily matter so long as you can get an ee foal out of the pairing, since agouti only affects E.

One interesting thing about the genetics of Friesians is that they only have aa for Agouti. Any horse that has an E in Extension will be black, and any horse that has no E will be chestnut.

As Kahzie said, to get a chestnut foal, you need both parents to have at least one e in Extension. The more e's and fewer E's they have, the better chance you have.

An EE Friesian bred to any other Friesian will be black.

An Ee Friesian bred to another Ee will have 75% black foals and 25% chestnut foals.

An Ee Friesian bred to an ee will have 50% black foals and 50% chestnut foals.

An ee Friesian bred to another ee will have all chestnut foals.

quick question to add to this topic how hard is it to get a foundation chestnut Friesian? I've been trying off and on and no luck from the EC. Every one I get has EE so no options of chestnut. Is it an average # like I should try in bulk and then I may get one? Just not sure if this is hopeless or I'm unlucky lol.
Let me know if anyone has gotten a ee or Ee from the Equine center? Thanks
