Conquering my fears!!

#89407 Posted on 2017-01-27 15:39:46

Sooooo I have a bit of an irrational fear of solid jumps :P It formed after I had a bunch of falls over solid jumps.

But, last night, I decided to conquer my fear during my lesson. My trainer kept pointing out that I'm jumping 2'3 courses with oxers and such but freak out over 18 inch fences (which is true). I ended up jumping a little line of 18 inch fences.

The first time I was so nervous that my lease-horse Tyson stopped before the jump and I ended up clinging on to his neck. Then I actually jumped the line twice.

It felt amazing!

Woo hoo! I get a little nervous about solid jumps too. I would like to one day do eventing, so I'm going to have to get over that, but I'll look at a solid little house and just wuss out every time. If my riding instructor tells me to do it, I know it is something me and the horse I am currently on can handle and we do it fine, but when I'm out on my own I tend to wimp out with anything over 18" solid (and I will jump 4' on a 13.3hh pony in lessons). It definitely helps to have a good instructor there to say that you and that horse are ready for the next thing. Congrats!
