Advice on QH customs decided

#88203 Posted on 2017-01-19 12:47:21

So, I was thinking on buying two QH customs. However, I'm not really sure if I should make a pair, two stallions, or make a mare and stallion, breed them twice together, and then breed them each to another horse. It's that or find a partner who also wants to make two customs and each keep 50% of the offspring (this would give a chance to shoot for two different gene types, such as one red flaxen, and one brown genes horses, ect.) So while the last one seems ideal, it's not all that likely. Any advice? Your own suggestions?

I think it depends on why you're creating them.

Are you trying to add specific genes to your herd? Are you trying to make money off foals? Are you trying to make money off studding them out or using them as broodmares? Are you just wanting to look at the cute pixels?

I prefer to pair my customs with EC horses because that allows them to add their rare (usually flaxen, brown, silver, champagne, and paint patterns) genes to my herd in a way that ensures the most future foals can get them. Breeding two customs flaxens together is nice because i know they'll always have a flaxen foal, but if i only breed them with that horse, I lose my chance for two flaxen foals from outside pairings down the line.

My goal is to add the genes to the herd. Cram them with all the good gene's I want.
