Grays...

#87868 Posted on 2017-01-17 06:02:28

So, I don't know if I am just unlucky, or if it's just the way things are from the Equine center, but thought I would ask...

How common is the gray gene???

I have 10 horses from the equine center, 8 gypsies and 2 Appys, and 8/10 are gray!!

Is gray really that common from the equine center???

(the two that are not gray are gypsies)

I feel it's pretty common ;p I always attributed that to the fact the gray gene has only the following options; gg, Gg, GG. Of these 2/3 result in a gray horse, so pretty common.

Grey is pretty common. I believe that it is more common in some breeds than others.

i just got 20 paints from the EC a week ago.
95% of them carried the agouti (aa) gene. So its mostly bays and chestnuts.
I do not want chestnuts unless they're flaxen, roan or dun, or some other modifier/dilution.

I got two greys (in which i cheated and bought credit items to randomize their coat color). No longer have greys. Cuz i suck and am impatient at trying to breed things out. cuz well, again, i suck. x3

It's luck of the draw though. and i got unlucky with the agouti gene, you the grey.

Same thing happened to me :) when I bought my foundation herd of 20 vanners, 16/20 were grey and the rest were either black chestnut or bay. Talk about bad luck lol. I just spent half a fortune and used color randomizers on all of them. Oops
