ability to train pregnant mares

#46124 Posted on 2016-06-10 08:41:27

we can show and use pregnant mares at the riding center until the last day of their pregnancies, so it seems odd that they can't be trained.

surely ten hours of riding school or ten shows a day is more stressful than a few hours of training ;)

I feel that the training block on pregnant mares could actually be beneficial. Training is supposed to be able to be completed around the age of ten (I believe that is what Abbey said, but can't seem to find the post. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), if you train consistently from age 3. So this feature could/would discourages people from breeding a mare until she is finished with her training. Right now because training was only recently added mares are actually at a disadvantage to stallions, but soon this will not longer be true unless you start breeding mares very young.

Though not everyone has started from 3 years old, so that stat boost at the end of each level is vital to keep up with the other horses, since pre-recode horses are generally at a disadvantage in stat distribution than new EV horses. I can understand wanting to include the last day, I know I've been annoyed at having a mare sit on 9/10 stat boosts when she's about to retire that she could have had without the block.

However you also can't show the mare on the last day of pregancy (or two, can't remember) so the Riding School serves as a replacement for the stats you would lose from Showing/Boosting.

when is training completed? do they max out on a level?
if so, i'd assume it would be level ten (a nice number in our base-10 counting system), which a horse trained every day won't reach until age 14+

i think the inability to show/participate in riding school during the last day or two of pregnancy is a nice bit of realism that the game has. if the same timing were instituted with training, that would make far more sense than the current blanket inability to train a pregnant mare.

My understanding was that level 5 was the max amount of training and that training should be able to be completed by 10.

oh and I found the post here, whether Abbey changed things since this post I have no idea.

ooh that is helpful. thanks aglet!

it looks like horses might get to level 5 the day (or perhaps the day after) they turn 10. that's how far my foundies are, at least, and i've trained them every day since 3.

i do still stand by my original suggestion to allow pregnant mares to train. perhaps not the full five days, but at least 3-4 of them. that will still push back completing their training to discourage early breeding, but will not put them at the huge stat disadvantage that breeding them now does.

i plan on breeding for conformation as well as stats, and the age of the parents doesn't have anything to do with that inheritance. given that the exact mode of inheritance is unknown, having as much time possible to pair up and experiment with crossings without having to worry about losing stats would be extremely beneficial
