BBCode Resource

#34809 Posted on 2016-04-28 10:29:09

I noticed we didn't seem to have a clear indication of what BBCode can be used on Equiverse, so I've put together this comprehensive list of all the code that will work here and how to use it. I hope you find it useful. If I've missed something, made an error, been unclear, or you have any questions, please let me know.

To briefly summarise, BBCode is the formatting language that can be used on Equiverse's forums and player pages to do things like format text, insert images, etc. Deluxe accounts also have the option to use HTML code on their layouts, which I don't cover here. I instead recommend w3schools for details on how to use HTML and CSS.

Bold text
Example: text
Code (remove *): [*b]text[/b]

Italic text
Example: text
Code (remove *): [*i]text[/i]

Underlined text
Example: text
Code (remove *): [*u]text[/u]

Strike-through text
Example: text
Code (remove *): [*s]text[/s]

Coloured text
Note: You can use any hexadecimal colour code or one of a huge list of colour names.
Example: text
Code option 1 (remove *): [*color=red]text[/color]
Code option 2 (remove *): [*color=#ff0000]text[/color]

Resized text
Note: Default text is size 1. You can use any number, including decimals.
Example: size 2 size 0.75
Code (remove *): [*size=2]size 2[/size]

Aligned text
Note: Code automatically makes a new paragraph, so it's not possible to have two different alignments on one line. Left alignment is default.
Example:
centralised text
right aligned text
left aligned text

Code for centralised alignment (remove *): [*center]text[/center]
Code for right alignment (remove *): [*right]text[/right]
Code for left/default alignment (remove *): [*left]text[/left]

Links
Note: If you don't include the entire url starting with http, it will automatically insert "www.equiverse.com/" in front of the url.
Example: http://www.equiverse.com/forums.php News Town
Code option 1 (remove *): [*url]http://www.equiverse.com/forums.php[/url]
Code option 2 (remove *): [*url=http://www.equiverse.com/news.php]News[/url]
Code option 3 (remove *): [*url=town.php]Town[/url]

Links to horses
Note: This code uses the horse's ID number to produce a link to the horse, while displaying its name and number. This BBCode is unique to Equiverse.
Example: }{ Brimstone (#199627)
Code (remove *): [*horse=199627]

Links to players
Note: This code uses the player's ID number to produce a link to their home page, while displaying their name and number. This BBCode is unique to Equiverse.
Example: Abbey 🌸 (#1)
Code (remove *): [*member=1]

Images
Note: Images cannot be resized manually, however if they are larger than 580px wide, they will be automatically shrunk to this size. This applies to both forums and player pages. If you don't include the entire url starting with http, it will automatically insert "www.equiverse.com/" in front of the url.
Example:
Code option 1 (remove * and replace 'URL' with the image's url): [*img]URL[/img]
Code option 2 (remove * and replace 'URL' with the image's url): [*img=URL]

Unavailable code
The following BBCode has been confirmed as being unavailable on Equiverse, but where possible alternatives have been listed.
- Headings, e.g. h1 tags (can be achieved through other text editing tags e.g. bold, resizing)
- Horizontal rules (can be partially achieved with text such as underscores, but this will not display well on small screens or small browser windows)
- Quote tags
- Lists (can be partially achieved with text)
- Superscript and subscript text
- Indents
- Noparse or code tags
- Tables
- Style tags (many options available through the text editing tags)
- Scrollboxes

I wanna thumbs up the w3schools reference. It's an incredible resource. I've learned so much just from it.

Thank you for putting this together, btw! Very helpful!

This is super helpful! Definitely appreciated; I've never used BBCode before, and this clears stuff up quite a bit.

Alternative to code tags:

Break the code by adding another code in it.
Type this: [[u][/u]url=linkylink]click[/url]
It will show up as: [url=linkylink]click[/url]
Kinda a hassle since you do need to save the code since the site will just turn them into links for you if you go back to edit LOL but it works!

Color note:

transparent is a color you can use. Good for spacing and adding searchable tags. I have a transparent "azkr" on all my art posts so you can search that to find forum topics by me! You won't notice it though, that's the point eheh.
