Mystery RP Reboot

Reboot of the Murder Mystery RP due to changes to canon.


BACKGROUND
While walking around in New York City, a strange old man approached and pushed a small folder of papers into your character's hands before disappearing back into the crowd. When the folder was opened, on the very top was a sticky note with a simple direction to meet at Papscanee Island Nature Preserve. Despite the absurdity and suspicious nature of it all, your character finds themself outside Albany in the parking lot right before dawn with a small group of others.


MATERIALS
At the start of the RP, when everyone is arriving at the nature preserve, your character will have knowledge regarding the contents of their personal folder (which has been sent to players). You may discern how well they looked at the contents and what thoughts they might have about them. Additional materials may be provided as discovered in the RP.


START SETTING
Staats Island Road, Castleton-on-Hudson, New York. July 12, 2051. 5:30AM.

Shane

The drive was too long, and Shane was more than eager to get out of the car. He thanked his dad for the drive, hopping out and letting Mushroom venture away to have a potty break while they waited for Quinn. Before long both Quinn and the dog were standing with him again, so he vaguely waved goodbye to his dad and stood awkwardly in the parking lot, taking in their surroundings before glancing at Quinn as if he was supposed to know what to do.

Quinn
Leaning casually on his crutches, Quinn stared at the trees skeptically. He still wasn't on board with the idea of coming here but he definitely hadn't been about to allow his husband go alone, so here they were, at the crack of dawn, having woken up at an ungodly hour to arrive on time. He could feel Shane looking at him and he just shrugged a little, gesturing to the empty lot in a sort of there's nothing here way. After a moment he walked toward the trail's information billboard but it was fairly standard and not particularly interesting, not to mention difficult to read in the dim light. He turned to say something to Shane but stopped when he saw a car coming down the road, blinker clicking just before it turned into the parking lot and came to a stop.

Mei
She flung open the door of her car as soon as she parked, exclaiming maybe a little too loud into the quiet morning, "What are you doing here?" Ignoring the displeased look Quinn gave her, Mei pushed her keys into her jacket pocket as she hopped from the vehicle and shut the door, moving to join the two. "You didn't tell me you were in New York."

Shane 
"Oh, my bad, let me just-" they took out their phone, typing up a message of "I'm in New York!!" and sending it to Mei, waiting patiently for her to reply.

Quinn
He sighed. "We haven't been in New York long. Why are you here?" 

Mei
Her phone was in her bag and while Quinn spoke she pulled it out to leave a thumbs-down on Shane's message before tucking the device away and taking out instead a manila folder. "I was given this and it told me to come here today." She carefully put it back. "There was a picture of a cute boy inside so I was curious." 

Shane

Shane gasped dramatically. "Someone put a picture of Quinn in a folder? Unacceptable."

Mei (& Quinn)
She rolled her eyes as Quinn looked at Shane with a small smile. "An age-appropriate boy," Mei replied. "And before you lecture me about safety, I brought pepper-spray." 

Shane

"Mei, I'm the cool cousin. Harper, on the other hand, would lecture you about bringing something as docile as pepper spray."

Outlaw
Tires hummed on the road as she cruised her way to the Nature Reserve, folder laid in the passenger seat. Was it sketchy heading to some random place before the crack of dawn on the note left by some old fellow? Definitely, why else would she be doing it? "Oh great" she mumbled, her headlights illuminated a small group of people already there as she swung the big pick-up into the parking lot. Momentarily ignoring the small group, she smoothly backed the truck into a spot in the back of the lot before killing the engine. Sliding a baggy black hoodie over her head, she stuffed her keys and a lighter and pack of cigarettes into the pocket of the hoodie before stepping out of the truck. Stepping to the rear door she opened it for Valkrye and Kuruk to hop out, the two massive canines shaking before sniffing the air, shooting a wary glance at the people already there, moving to stand on either side of her. She stayed by her truck for a moment longer to light a cigarette, while glancing at the small group across the parking, swiftly recognizing the figures standing outlined in the dim light. "Well damn."

Mei
"The cool cousin would have told me they were back in New York," she said to Shane, turning around as a truck pulled in and taking a few cautious steps toward Shane and Quinn. The tall woman who exited was attractive in a rugged way, riddled with scars, and Mei watched her curiously. 

Quinn
He gave a half-wave to Outlaw from where his hand rested on the handle of one of his crutches. "Been a while," Quinn greeted. Though he hadn't exactly expected to see her, he couldn't say he was surprised. "You and Shane can't seem to stay out of trouble."

Outlaw
She walked over to join the group, directing her canines to stand on the opposite side of her then where Quinn was. She knew he wasn’t fond of them. “Oh please I’m an angel. I’m just here to babysit Shane as usual.” She retorted to Quinn with a faint grin. 

Shane
He frowned. "I'm not that much of a troublemaker. Mei, Outlaw, Outlaw, Mei."

Mei 
Mei adjusted her bag, pulling the strap back into place on her shoulder as she smiled warmly at Outlaw. "Hello." When Quinn started to speak again, looking unimpressed with the whole situation as he asked about a folder, she swiveled to Shane. "How old is she?" she whispered. 

Outlaw
She returned Mei’s greeting before being distracted by Quinn. “Aww well don’t look so thrilled to see me then. But yea I got a folder too.”

Shane

"As old as the earth, probably. No, you can't date her. If Quinn is out of your age range then I think she's further."
