My first Brumby-ish Character!

#262609 Posted on 2022-11-25 07:28:47

(Fun fact: I actually made the character for Hermes, but I am keeping the colt for obvious reasons like redesigning sometime, that way, when I am ready I can be sure that I reached the appropriate level of artistic skills. For now it's just a plain, bland, character with no shading, values, etc etc to him)

Here's the link to my character:
Moonshine's Link

(I am horrible at linking and cannot figure it out, no matter what, no matter the address I cannot link! Except the links to my site, you need to go there for it to work..)

Ah, thanks! Though I was surprised that you replied, ha, I should expect that- anyways yeah, I'll be shading him and the others once I am done creating a whole bunch more then anticipated, but if I don't find anymore bases or *lineart's* to credit the artist's or none at all then I will be working on him!

I think I went over with the bay coming out on his right hind leg (am I right? I don't know my rights and my lefts sometimes), but I'll look at him and examine him and possibly tweak him by chance, if I have time to tweak him some!

What program are you using?

It looks like you’ve traced over the lines, which I would not recommend repeating for other linearts or other art. If you’re capable of tracing and putting colour under it, you must be capable of just colouring under the lineart yes?

Oh, yes I do! I guess I tend not to notice that.. Heheh sorry if it's a bit of a trouble, I'm used to tracing over sometimes-

And my program? I have a couple of those actually, but a friend of mine (irl) recommended me to use something called Kleki, when she saw me draw once, and another irl friend told me use a site called PixIv.Net? I don't use that one very much.. Then I have another one called Canvas, I don't use that one either, I only use Kleki since I'm more used it more then ever.

(I don't think that much of what I said is helpful, but I did answer your questions to my best!)

Unrelated: Though give me some paper and I'll make a new random character! Combined of horse, deer, and friendly skeleton nature and you have an undead child friendly horse!

EDIT (down here): I actually use tracing so that the colors don't accidentally mix with the background, then it would be painful to get it back to the original thing since I would need to redo most of it, and yeah, it's a tough process but I'm quite fast with finishing work in either one or more hours of the day, equivlent of me writing actually!

omg, no way, one of my virtual friends recommended Kleki in July :D I love it, I hate having to download things lol. Though I did download Krita bc it's common on DA, it's super complicated to use and made me feel dumb xD glad to see someone else using Kleki ♥
btw if you need free horse line art, I have about 30 saved on DA if you wanna check 'em out, just be sure to read about the crediting the artist wrote ♥
Here's my account: BotwEquestrian
and here's a link to the line art so you don't have to look for it: Line art

Ah thanks Kali! (I'm just gonna use it as a nickname, obvious reasons really) I'll be sure to check out the art! And I always do the credits, unless the crediting is not there, then I resort to unamed horses.. You can actually see that by my unamed mare and stallion:

Unamed Stallion Link
&
Unamed Mare Link

I don't even put "Character by Lizzy" with these two!- Ahem.. Trying not to seem to yell, but yeah, though I'll consider putting the "character by Lizzy" if I decide that I want too.

they're both so cute!! I hope the line art helped, I hand picked them all :D maybe instead of Character by Lizzy, which can be mistaken for taking credit for the line art, you could say something like Character coloring and info by Lizzy :3 CCaIbL c:

You can also use "Design by Lizzy" and then for the linework use "Base/Lines by _____" I wouldn't recommend using an abbreviation of artist credits. They need to be readable and understandable to be used on EV and it's not a bad idea to follow through with that on other Art Sites/Forums/Games either. I'm not going to lie, if I saw credits like "CCaIbL" on an art piece I would think that was the artists name because there's no way for me to know that it's abbreviated. That's just me though.

There's a lot of good lineart and bases on DA. You can find a lot of great Free to Use and Pay to Use. Here's my F2U folder. There's 200+ lineart and bases in it.

Geez that is a lot of lineart, and good points! I'll actually have to edit them now since I don't want to cause conflict, and yeah!

And heh yeah! I just realized, I could use the abbreviation as a little fun name for a character that I created! That would be funny since the description would say what the name was instead of the information from the other horses, oh I love all of your suggestions!

I don't think I would get through them all! But I'll try!

Oh and if you all see the bases that you picked and let me see, then that is a reference to you all! It's funny, nice, and a sweet thing to do, plus extra crediting!

EDIT: I also had DeviantArt, but I forgot both my username and password, and I don't remember the email either.. So I would need to create a new account just to y'know, reasons.

Yeah... You shouldn't be tracing over lineart or anything copyrighted, artists really don't like that unless they've explicitly said you can.

You can import png images (File > Import > Select your png lineart) into Kleki and drag the layers in the order you want, so I would really recommend that you do that with lineart in the future.

Deer Creek is right, you need to keep any crediting of resources/copyrights completely legible. Even if the lineartist doesn't put credits on, it is your responsibility to make sure they have credits on the image or in the description of where you've posted. On the image is best, and also what Equiverse requires.

With Kleiki the steps are a tiny bit different, I'll show you how to do it :D or rather, show and tell as I can't take a screenshot with the file folder open :'(
40x100just click the button I circled in red and it'll open the downloads folder, from there just click the file and then Open, for lineart when it asks if you want to open it as a Layer or Image, it's easier to go with Image as it will resize the canvas to the size of the line art file, then just add whatever layers you need underneath it :) hope this helps ♥

glad to have been of assistance ♥ I had to figure it out myself when I started using Kleki, took about 45 minutes of getting familiar to learn how to see it :D
